Spirea are not particular about soil type, any well-draining soil from slightly acidic to alkaline, sand, clay to rich and organic will allow Spirea to thrive.
With average moisture needs, keep well watered throughout the initial establishment period and afterward, Spirea should only require supplemental water during drought and extremely hot summers.
A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.
Spirea bloom on new wood, be sure to only prune either right after they flower in summer, or in late winter or very early spring before you see new growth.
