Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Dramatic and dark as their namesake, Summer Nights Delphinium (Delphinium grandiflorum 'Summer Nights') is a deeply saturated dwarf variety that makes a great perennial garden plant, cutting garden, or a great edging or container plant! Dense clusters of dark royal violet-blue to royal purple florets smother these stems with their blooms, each accented by a lighter eye or 'bee'!

Deer seem to leave it be, while Butterflies and Hummingbirds love the masses of deep royal purplish-blue flowers in late spring through early summer, and with attentive deadheading - a rebloom until autumn! Backed by a lacy clump of deep green foliage and leaves that are very deeply incised and lobed for a dramatic effect in the garden as edging and filler, even when not in bloom.

Summer Nights Delphinium is impressively cold-hardy throughout USDA hardiness zones 3 - 7 and forms dense clumps only 10-12 inches in height and width! Superbly space-saving and oh-so mysterious, the dark blooms are equally as lacy and fine-textured as the foliage! Summer Nights is also compact and bushy and no staking is necessary.

Planting and Application:

The dark coloration of Summer Nights contrasts nicely with bright pink, white, and purple flowers. Adding depth and small-scale vertical interest to any garden bed or border, or even pots and planters! Add these dramatic blooms along the edges of a pathway leading to a garden bench, or add some mystery to your mailbox planting in the sun! Emphasize a special garden statue, urn, or obelisk with a skirting of these deeply-hued summer blooms!

Summer Nights adds depth not just in the garden but also in bouquets! So include these perennials in your Cottage border and cutting gardens! Create your own twilight garden in contrast to a Moon Garden with other deeply hued, pouting shades and dark foliage plants! For the showiest visual impact, plant in groups or in winding rows as lacy accents throughout the landscape! Turn any garden into a butterfly garden with one or more of these vertical interest perennials!

No Yard? No Problem! Dwarf Delphiniums are equally suitable in large planters and porch pots in the sun as vertical focal points and filler plants. So mix among your annuals and spiller-style groundcovers of all colors for a porch pot that catches the eye!

  • Deep Double Pink Spires of Light & Airy Blooms
  • Reblooms & Lasts All Summer Into Fall
  • Lacy Mounds of Incised Green Leaves
  • Butterflies & Hummingbirds Galore!
  • Bright & Colorful Accents, Edging, Vertical Interest & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Dwarf Delphiniums grow best in full sun and love a touch of afternoon shade, in locations with enriched, well-drained soil with a basic pH. If your soil is naturally acidic, adding lime will help to provide these conditions. Delphinium appreciates a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the roots. Provide regular moisture all summer for best results and to support the huge blooms.

These dwarf-sized stems rarely need any staking when planted in a protected area, so they remain upright no problem! But if you do grow them in windy locations, a firm stake will help support their stems. Deadhead early enough and you'll enjoy a rebloom until fall, then as the foliage turns yellow, prune back the leaves and stems close to the ground and water it in well one last time before the ground freezes.

Delphiniums are also heavy feeders. The addition of compost or manure to the soil, as well as a granular fertilizer, will result in healthier, stronger plants. It is recommended you wear gloves when handling these plants since some can develop skin sensitivity. Always monitor young pets and young children around Delphinium.

  • Full Sun & Afternoon Shade
  • Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Appreciates Mulch & Regular Moisture Access
  • Low-Maintenance & Deer Resistant
  • Deadhead As Blooms Fade & Prune Late Autumn

Dark and mysterious, the Summer Nights Delphinium will add just that dramatic touch of airy finery to your perennial garden beds and borders this year! Hurry and order enough for your next project from NatureHills.com today!
