Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Deep double pink spires, the cheerful and rosy Pink Punch Delphinium (Delphinium elatum 'Pink Punch') is an early season bloomer with an intense pop of mulberry pink color. Pink Punch may be the deepest pink available today! Each of the light and airy florets on dainty waving stems, fill out the entire vertical wands these perennials produce to lend their finery to your garden beds and borders!
Its frilled double flowers have white to brown to dark pink striped 'bees' and are sure to attract Hummingbirds and butterflies! Creating an excellent visual interest in your garden, these lavish deep-pink double flowers pack a real punch of color to any landscape! These wands rise elegantly above a dense mound of incised and deeply cut green foliage that looks wonderful even when not in bloom!
Very cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 through 7, Delphiniums are also wonderfully deer, rabbit, and pest-free perennials. Growing to a lush airy clump that's 1-2 feet in width, and producing wands that can reach 3-5 feet tall when in bloom!
Planting and Application:
The delicate fine texture and eye-popping color add vivid beauty to tired Cottage borders and are perfect for cutting gardens. Not just in the landscape but also in bouquets and floral arrangements! These blend beautifully among others in the Perennial garden and add lacy filler to Rose gardens! Create high-impact by planting them in groups or in zigzagging rows as fine-textured, vertical accents throughout the landscape! Punch up a garden bed or border with the bright color and any garden becomes a butterfly garden with one or more of these vertical interest perennials!
Perfect gifts to welcome a new baby or add delight to a Children's Garden, these dainty fairy-like blooms are sure to be everyone's favorite! Delphiniums are equally suitable in large planters and porch pots in the sun as vertical focal points and filler plants. So mix among your annuals and spiller-style groundcovers of all colors for a porch pot that catches the eye! Melding beautifully with other pinks, oranges, yellows, and white, they also add interest when planted among perennials and shrubs with burgundy to purple foliage! Add as facer perennials and edging to the garden, or as a back-of-the-border accent that punctuates your landscape with color!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Delphiniums grow best in full sun and afternoon shade, in locations with enriched, well-drained soil with a basic pH. If your soil is naturally acidic, adding lime will help to provide these conditions. Delphinium appreciates a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the roots. Provide regular moisture all summer for best results and to support the huge blooms.
These strong stems rarely need any staking when planted in a protected area, so they remain upright no problem! But if you do grow them in windy locations, a firm stake will help support their stems. Deadhead early enough and you'll enjoy a rebloom until fall, then as the foliage turns yellow, prune back the mound close to the ground and water it in well one last time before the ground freezes.
Delphiniums are also heavy feeders. The addition of compost or manure to the soil, as well as a granular fertilizer, will result in healthier, stronger plants. It is recommended you wear gloves when handling these plants since some can develop skin sensitivity. Always monitor young pets and young children around Delphinium.
