Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Elegant NEW MILLENNIUM™ Delphinium Blue Lace (Delphinium x 'Blue Lace') is adorned with brilliant spires of true sky-blue flowers in early summer! The florets are fully double and feature a frilly center touched with a slight blush of lavender pink. Hummingbirds and butterflies adore the large and inviting blossoms. Individual plants make lovely specimens in the garden and groupings are spectacular.

Delphiniums have a neat compact habit and are renowned for the excellent form, strong stems, and vigorous growth habit of their hybrids. The large, deeply divided, dark green leaves are resistant to deer and rabbit resistant. Blue Lace Delphinium flowers also show resistance to powdery mildew. Encourage reblooming by trimming down the flowers as they near finishing. You'll enjoy another excellent display in late summer and fall if those first flowers are removed.

These modern natural hybrids Delphinium series boast strong stiff stems that rarely require staking if planted in a sheltered spot. NEW MILLENNIUM™ Blue Lace grows to an impressive 5-6 feet in height when in bloom! The dark green mound of foliage spreads to 18-24 inches wide and thrives throughout the chilly USDA growing zones 3 through zone 7 without having any pest issues! This series is also noted for its tolerance to heat and humidity. Plus, the deer and rabbits will stay away.

Planting and Application:

Blue Lace Delphinium brings an astonishingly lush look to your landscape. Transport your garden guests by recreating the lavish charm of an English Garden in your borders and planting beds. For the best visual impact, plant them in groups as extreme exclamation points throughout the landscape! Delphinium is sure to amaze you anywhere you plant it! Like tall baby blue punctuation, these wands of dramatic color create a bold impact as a back-of-the-garden bed or border!

Create an outdoor showpiece with the architectural form of Blue Lace Delphinium. This true, light blue captures the imagination like no other garden hue. Ramp up a tired Cottage border or Butterfly garden! The easy-going nature of these herbaceous perennials means any garden becomes a pollinator or cut flower garden!

Bring them inside for dramatic flower arrangements! You'll establish a reputation as a style maven, and no one needs to know how easy it was! But be forewarned - you're going to need some big vases for the near 4-6 foot tall flowering wands! Anchor a garden bed or border, or add something dramatic behind the mailbox to slow traffic that passes by your home!

  • Incredible Double, Sky-Blue Flowers & Slight Pink Blushed Centers
  • High-Performance Reblooming Variety
  • Sturdy, Six-Foot Tall Flower Spires
  • Clump-Forming Deeply-Divided Dark Green Foliage
  • Specimen & Accent Perennial, Anchors, Beds and Back-of-the-Border

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Blue Lace is part of the improved NEW MILLENNIUM™ series from New Zealand, and is blissfully low-maintenance! Delphiniums grow best in full sun and rich, well-drained soil with a basic pH. If your soil is naturally acidic, adding lime will help to provide these conditions. In locations with hot afternoon sun, they do prefer a touch of half-day shade. Delphinium appreciates a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the roots. Provide regular moisture all summer for best results and to support the huge blooms.

The strong stems rarely need to be staked when planted in a protected area, so they continue to stand as tall punctuation throughout the garden! But if you do grow them in windy locations, a firm stake will help support their stems. Deadhead early enough and you'll enjoy a rebloom until fall, then as the foliage turns yellow, prune back the mound close to the ground and water it in well one last time before the ground freezes.

They are also heavy feeders. The addition of compost or manure to the soil, as well as a granular fertilizer, will result in healthier, stronger plants. It is recommended you wear gloves when handling these plants since some can develop skin sensitivity. Always monitor young pets and young children around Delphinium.

  • Full Sun & Afternoon Shade
  • Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Appreciates Mulch & Regular Moisture Access
  • Rabbits & Deer Tend to Leave Them Alone
  • Powdery Mildew Resistance, Heat & Humidity Tolerant
  • Low-Maintenance & Very Cold Hardy
