Huge brilliant orange blooms that cast a spell on your landscape! Spellbinder Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Spellbinder') is certainly one of the most striking daylilies we have seen! As the name implies, these immense 6.5" flowers will cast a spell on you as you stare at the radiant golden-orange flowers.

What makes Spellbinder even better is the very long bloom season! In Michigan, it is one of the first to bloom in early June and it continues to rebloom throughout the summer. The exotic orange hue is intense and will surely get the attention of anyone passing by this Daylily! Need more of a reason? Spellbinder is one of the best tangerine-orange reblooming Daylilies available! Furthermore, it's incredibly fragrant too!

That means more perfume and color for your floral bouquets indoors, and more enjoyment as pollinators and hummingbirds arrive to get their fill of the nectar-rich blooms! Each produces a fresh new bloom each day and features several buds per stem! Then top it off with a rebloom later in the summer and sometimes again closer to fall!

These Reblooming Daylilies are hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9 and can reach 30-34 inches in height when in bloom! Mature clumps can spread 18-24 inches wide and are densely filled with lush grassy foliage that cascades into fountains of green! In colder hardiness zones 4-8, the perennial foliage may die back to the roots for winter and regrow from the crown in the spring, but in warmer climates, tetraploid Daylilies can sometimes remain evergreen.

Planting and Application:

The intense color of Spellbinder illuminates every style of landscape design from Cottage to contemporary! It pairs beautifully with summer-blooming perennials from Liatris to Butterfly Bush. Use them to add star appeal to stand-alone plantings, or in mixed containers and planting tubs.

Create a lush and colorful backdrop for outdoor get-togethers. Run a long hedge of Spellbinder along your fence line or perk up a tired evergreen hedge, and add curb appeal to your home's foundation planting! Take advantage of the sophisticated, arched green foliage as edging and facer plant fringe.

These rugged plants can handle themselves in Rock Gardens, in cottage borders, pollinator borders, and throughout your sun landscape without worry! Applaud their rugged durability in urban conditions, including streetside plantings. You can even use them under Black Walnut trees, as they aren't affected by juglone! Use Spellbinder Daylilies in the front of your garden border and along walkways as edging, and in street-side hell strips.

Plant in drifts and in blocks to maximize this fantastic beacon of color! Planted together in large numbers, they quickly crowd out weeds and make a carefree and colorful groundcover. And you'll appreciate their carefree nature! Mix with other Daylilies for an impactful, easy-care look, as a wonderful Xeric landscape plant and is on many fire-scaping lists.

To create a continuous display, plant 2 feet apart on center. You'll measure from the center of one plant to the center of the next. For mass plantings, use a staggered, zig-zagging planting pattern. Mulch between plants and keep them weeded until they grow together.

  • Rich Deep Purple Blooms & Glowing Lime-Green Throat
  • Fountains of Grassy Green Arching Foliage
  • Pollinator-Friendly & Great Cut Flowers
  • Container-Sized & Very Easy to Grow
  • Specimens, Accents, Edging & En Masse

#ProPlantTips for Care:

These herbaceous perennials require little maintenance throughout the year to keep performing their best. Daylilies are some of the easiest plants to grow and are a great choice for any gardener. The plant prefers full sun with at least 8 hours of direct sunlight for the best performance. They will grow in almost any soil and handle drought to wet soil conditions. Add a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the soil surface for best results!

Spent blooms can be deadheaded, then remove entire stems once all the buds are done to keep the plants reblooming. Daylilies are susceptible to rust and some other foliage diseases so for that reason it is very important to cut all of the foliage to the ground in late fall after the plants have been exposed to a couple of frosts. Removing the foliage before winter prevents the overwintering of disease on the old leaves so it is best to always clean them up and dispose of the old foliage each year. Every 3-5 years, it is recommended you divide the clumps to keep them growing vigorously.

  • Best in Full Sun
  • Adaptable in Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture - Low Once Established
  • Prune Late Fall, Deadhead Regularly & Divide Every 3-5 Years
  • Seldom Bothered By Anything
