Add garden distinction without compromising your morals! The El Desperado Daylily (Hemerocallis 'El Desperado) is so brightly colored it's almost criminal! Featuring large, mustard yellow flowers with a bold, contrasting purple eye above a green throat that acts like a bee and butterfly bullseye! With a subtle fragrance and luring in the occasional hummingbird, there is so much to love about this fantastic perennial!

El Desperado is a popular Daylily among Daylily-lovers! It adds an extremely high bud count and an extended 16-hour bloom time that lets you enjoy blooms in the late afternoon and evening! Plus, it will bloom early in the season and then repeat bloom late in the season.

Daylilies are some of the easiest plants to grow and are a good choice for any gardener! Incredibly resilient and adaptable throughout USDA growing zones 2 to 9 and everything in between! Sun, heat, chill, and humidity are no problem, this hardy tetraploid perennial can be semi-evergreen in warm climates, but the strappy green leaves die back to the ground in cold climates with the promise to return vigorously in the spring!

Planting and Application:

Attract all the attention with this outlaw! Surviving some of the toughest garden conditions without flinching, this tough hombre stands up to drought and occasionally wet sites, salt spray, poor soil, sun, heat and humidity, deer and rabbits, and fire-prone landscapes with ease! This means El Desperado will thrive in the pampered Cottage and Perennial garden as well as it will in Rock Gardens and roadside hell strips!

Just as lovely in sunny garden beds as they are in pots and planters, Daylilies are prime additions to the porch or patio planter, window boxes and balconies! The grassy foliage clumps and bold blooms create the ideal spiller, filler and thriller for container gardeners!

These are gorgeous blooms for pollinators and Cut flower gardens, as the big yellow and wine bullseyes demand the eye to gravitate to them! Because of their high impact color, El Desperado is a must-have for commercial and residential mass plantings! Filling large areas with low-maintenance color and greenery, while securing soil from eroding on slopes or covering large swaths of sunbaked bare ground that few other plants will tolerate.

  • Brilliant Yellow Blooms & Wine-Purple Ring
  • Fragrant Reblooming Daylily
  • Dense Clumps of Grassy Green Foliage
  • Cut Flower, Pollinators, Containers & Tricky Garden Spots
  • Specimens, En Masse, Accents, Edging & Sun Garden Focal Points

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Daylilies are easy-to-grow, perfect for the novice gardener, and can survive harsh conditions that many other plants cannot! For the most blooms, Daylily prefers full sun but in areas that receive less than 6 hours of sun during the day, your Daylilies will probably produce fewer and smaller blooms, and the foliage may not be as robust. Best in enriched, well-drained soil that has regular but moderate moisture access, but they will grow in almost any soil and handle drought to wet soil conditions once established. Top dress with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch chips.

Deadhead to encourage rebloom, then trim the entire scape to the crown of the plant once all the buds are spent to clean up the mound. In late autumn after frost, remove all foliage to the ground and dispose of it away from the site to prevent rusts and diseases from overwintering. Divide in the early spring, about every 3-5 years to maintain vigor and flowering size.

  • Best in Full Sun
  • Adaptable in Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture - Low Once Established
  • Prune Late Fall, Deadhead Regularly & Divide Every 3-5 Years
  • Seldom Bothered By Anything

Because it blooms in late summer when other plants begin to lose their luster, El Desperado Daylily is a tried-and-true first-class performer that stands out in any landscape! Order your tough outlaw today at Nature Hills!
