A late-season floral showstopper, Curtain Call Pink Japanese Anemone PP#30,739 (Anemone 'Curtain Call Pink') is the perfect crescendo for the summer-to-fall garden. Part of the beloved Proven Winners® lineup, this compact perennial offers lovely semi-double, bubblegum-pink blooms with golden stamens atop wiry stems!

Fragrant and elegant, it begins blooming in late summer and continues through early fall, often reblooming if deadheaded. It's perfect for filling the gap between the peak of summer and the arrival of true autumn color.

This Anemone grows in a compact, mounding form, just 14-18 inches tall and 16-18 wide, making it ideal for small spaces or front-of-border plantings. The foliage is deep green, lobed, and slightly toothed, forming a dense clump below the upright flower stems. While the leaves remain attractive all season, it's those long-lasting blooms that steal the show. You may even notice some occasional decorative seed heads if blooms are left in place.

Key Features

  • Semi-double bubblegum pink flowers with golden centers
  • Blooms in late summer into fall
  • Compact form: 12–18 inches tall and wide
  • Deer and rabbit-resistant
  • Cold-hardy and shade-tolerant

Landscaping Uses

This compact mound-forming perennial grows 12–18 inches tall and wide, perfect for a splash of color in late-season garden gaps.

Native to China but cultivated for centuries in Japan, the Japanese Anemone is steeped in symbolism—often representing protection, anticipation, and good luck. It performs beautifully in cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, and woodland borders for those late blooms glowing in twilight.

  • Front of perennial borders
  • Spreading perennial, making it great for weed-blocking mass plantings
  • Containers and patio planters
  • Cottage gardens and fantastic cut flower garden additions
  • Woodland edges and light shade beds
  • Mixed borders. Great combined with Ornamental Grasses or perennials!

Care and Maintenance

This is an herbaceous perennial that returns year after year with more vigor once it settles in. Its tolerance to light shade and resilience to pests makes it a go-to for low-maintenance spaces.

Curtain Call Pink is well-suited for USDA Hardiness Zones 4 through 8, and it's a tough cookie: cold-hardy, moderately drought tolerant once established, and thrives in part sun to light shade.

  • Planting Time: Spring or early fall is ideal
  • Sun Needs: Part shade to full sun (prefers afternoon shade in hot climates)
  • Soil Needs: Moist, well-drained soil; tolerates clay if drainage is good
  • Moisture Needs: Average to moist; keep well watered in summer heat
  • Mulch/Arborist Mulch: Apply a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch to conserve moisture and protect the roots
  • Fertilization Needs: Light feeder; compost in spring or balanced fertilizer once per year
  • Pruning Info: Deadhead spent blooms to encourage reblooming; cut back old foliage in late fall after frost.
  • Renewal Pruning: Not needed
  • Special Perks/Growing Tips:
    • Rabbit and deer-resistant
    • Spreading by way of underground rhizomes
  • Division Info: Divide every 3–4 years in spring or fall to maintain vigor
