Coreopsis Jethro Tull (Coreopsis x 'Jethro Tull') is an incredible new plant that is certain to catch everyone's attention! The large, golden-orange flowers set the landscape ablaze from early to mid-summer!
The unique flowers have fluted petals that surround a darker button-like center. Each petal has curious jagged edges and is a non-stop bloomer all summer long! It is extremely floriferous with over 100 blooms appearing at a time at peak bloom! This stunning little guy seems to always be in bloom.
Also known as Tickseed, this cross between 'Zamphir' and 'Early Sunrise' features broader, fluted petals, and a mounded, compact growing habit. Combined with its extended flowering season and the sheer number of blooms, it is a vast improvement over its predecessors!
Blooms from summer through the fall, you’ll have pollinators visiting all growing season, followed by songbirds visiting the dried seedheads for an autumn treat!
While most of us are familiar with the Rock Band, few are familiar with this plant’s true namesake. Jethro Tull (1674-1741) was an agriculturalist and inventor that revolutionized farming, and many of his influence lives on in today’s modern world.
How to Use Jethro Tull Coreopsis In The Landscape
Coreopsis are hardy and tolerant native plants and adaptable throughout most garden settings! Very conducive to areas prone to dry soils, these golden yellow flowers are easy to grow in tough settings.
Versatile and sunny, they’re adaptable as vivid accent plants, neat and tidy edging or border plants, and high impact in commercial and mass plantings! Blooming profusely, these native plants attract butterflies all summer!
Completely content for use on the patio or in containers, any gardener with a sunny porch or balcony can include these compact beauties! Tuck into window boxes and porch pots for a bright and cheery welcome for your visitors.
Small and tidy-sized, they fit into any existing Perennial borders and Sun garden, Pollinator garden or Naturalized Prairie plantings. Cottage gardens gain a dramatic boost of color as their extended blooming period makes them fantastic for use in the Cutting garden to fill your vases and bouquets!
#ProPlantTips For Care
Fantastic sun garden plants, Coreopsis thrive in the full sun! Hardy in USDA growing zones 5 through 9, these are cold and heat tolerant herbaceous perennials.
Jethro Tull Coreopsis is easy to care for and low maintenance. Requiring only a sunny spot with average garden soil. Tolerant of poor soil and dry sites once established, its best to provide your plant moderately enriched, very well-drained soil and moderate moisture for the most blooms, the best health and longevity.
Give this plant a hard shearing to promote re-bloom or deadhead to keep those flowers returning until autumn! Leave a few seedheads intact to dry on the plant in fall so the local songbird population has some food for the winter!
Shining like the sun itself, these are drought-tolerant. Xeric plants and generally have no problems. Deer leave them alone and they are incredibly low maintenance for the busy gardener like yourself!
