Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Part of the Butterfly™ Series of Coneflower, the Julia Coneflower (Echinacea x 'Julia') is a hardy, compact Coneflower with long-lasting, bright orange blooms! Julia is exceptional in both its saturated color and tidy form. A sturdy plant, Julia has strong stems to support its dozens of 4-inch blooms and all the bees and butterflies that will be visiting these radiant landing pads!

It begins flowering in early summer and keeps on going through late summer, but if you deadhead, the flowers keep popping until frost. The bright orange, single flowers boast a large dark-copper cone that is raised and spikey. The contrast is superb and sure to create a blazing spectacle of color wherever you plant it in your yard! As the flowers age, they transform into a golden orange, providing a little added variety to their color palette.

Backed by a flush of green foliage that looks great all growing season long, these hardy perennials grow throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9. Just 1-2 feet tall and wide, these dwarf Coneflowers more than makeup for their size by means of sheer color!

Planting and Application:

Place a few of these outstanding orange blossoms in your cutting or wildlife garden for a brilliant spectacle that gives back to its environment! This high-impact color is a must-have for along walkways and paths, or as edging along the fronts of garden beds! Julia's compact nature makes it a perfect choice for those small spots in your yard where you'd like a lot of color but thought you didn't have the room.

Urban courtyards gain modern fresh color, and Rock Gardens get a vivid boost. Try pairing Julia with hot pinks, deep yellows, and fiery reds in an upscale Courtyard, Cottage garden, or mixed Perennial border! She will make a wonderful cut flower for your kitchen table, so you can bring some of its bright radiance indoors as well!

Julia is also lovely in patio containers, porch pots around the pool, or any sunny area where you need a splash of color! Not only will butterflies and other pollinators frequent your yard in the summer, but the birds will love you too in the fall. Leave some flowers to dry in the fall, and your songbirds will flock to the tasty seeds for winter sustenance. Even though many creatures love it, deer will leave it alone.

  • Vibrant Saturated Orange Blooms
  • Short & Compact Smaller Perennial
  • Blooms Summer Til Frost
  • Pollinator, Bird & Bouquet-Friendly
  • Space-Saving Containers, Sun Gardens, Bed & Borders & Bright Edging

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant Coneflowers in full sun for the strongest stems and the most flowers, choosing a well-drained area to keep their roots from sitting in soggy ground. Coneflowers become very drought tolerant once established, even tolerating clay soils, just as long as they drain. Use Nature Hills Root Booster when planting to give your plants the micronutrients and beneficial soil amendments they need.

During the first season, please pay close attention to watering. But you'll get more blooms over the growing season with a regular schedule of supplemental water, especially in containers. Once these herbaceous Perennials are well-established, Coneflowers become waterwise. Provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch to help protect plants in the harshest locations.

Deadhead the blooms after they fade for rebloom, but leave the last blooms of the season standing for birds and interest. In late autumn, prune back within an inch of the ground. Divide clumps when they become overcrowded about every 3-5 years.

Julia is drought, heat and humidity tolerant as well as pest and disease-resistant. It is quite simply one tough little plant!

  • Easy To Grow in Full Sun
  • Most Well-Drained Soil & Clay Soil Tolerant
  • Moderate to Low Moisture - Drought & Heat Tolerant

Your Julia Coneflower was named after a Dryas iulia butterfly of the same shade of bright orange color, and butterflies certainly love it!
