Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

The Blackcurrant Ice Columbine (Aquilegia flabellata 'Blackcurrant Ice') has striking flowers with a unique color combination with an unusual spiky shape. This dwarf Columbine has blue-green foliage topped by multiple spring-flowering bi-color flowers of creamy yellow corollas that are draped with plummy purple spurred petals.

This Columbine is a very sought-after plant for its unique flower and leaf forms! It attracts hummingbirds and butterflies to the dainty blooms that are held high above the mounds of lobed rounded, compound leaf mounds!

These gorgeous herbaceous perennials are reported to be less susceptible to insect damage and are seldom bothered by deer or rabbits! The long-lasting flowering display gives you plenty of dainty blooms to choose from for your floral arrangements!

Planting and Application:

Blackcurrant Ice can be used individually in small clumps, or massed together in combined groupings to create a stunning explosion of extended color. Blackcurrant Ice is great for container gardening and garden beds where despite its dainty form won't get lost in a mixed perennial garden or mixed planter!

Add this luxurious flowering and foliage plant to the front of a border for an amazing display of color! Use as edging or as specimens throughout Children's gardens, Cottage gardens, or along a shady mixed pollinator bed! Line your pathway or fringe the edges of a woodland garden, or even add a skirting of Columbines around trees or large shrubs.

  • Long-Lasting Blooms on Tall Stems For Bouquets
  • Attracts Butterflies & Hummingbirds

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Blackcurrant Ice is an easily grown perennial in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade, especially afternoon shade in the hotter of its USDA growing zones 3 to 9. Tolerating a wide range of soils except heavy, poorly drained ones, Columbines prefer a good layer of mulch or compost over their root systems.

Remove flowering stems after bloom to encourage additional bloom. Keep soils uniformly moist after bloom to prolong attractive foliage appearance. When foliage dies back, either in the hot summers or in the late autumn, these plants may be cut to the ground. Resistant to Deer and rabbits, Columbines are also pest and disease-resistant.

  • Full Sun, Afternoon Shade & Partial Shade
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Regular Moisture & Appreciates Mulch
  • Deadhead & Prune Late Autumn
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant

Plum and icy yellow bi-color blooms, the Blackcurrant Ice Columbine will add its spiky whimsy to your landscape each spring! As soon as this perennial is in stock, make sure you get yours right away at Nature Hills!
