Description
Gorgeous chocolatey satiny blooms, the Chocolate Gladiolus (Gladiolus x hortulanus 'Chocolate') is a dark purple-toned maroon flowering spire that is dramatic and radiates with a subtle gold hue when the sun shines through the big ruffled petals! If Dracula wanted a dress cape, it would look like this satiny bloom!
Chocolate Gladiolus flowers for a long time since the multiple buds on the spires bloom from the bottom up! Bringing in the butterflies, bees, and even a few curious hummingbirds! The incredible blooms look fantastic in upscale bouquets, especially in a tall slender vase!
Backed by a flush of vertical sword-like green foliage, it looks great before and after the flowers are in bloom, providing upright greenery in the garden! Growing up to 2 feet in height when in full bloom, the corms create groupings just 6-8 inches wide for a space-saving garden focal point that will turn heads!
Landscape Application:
These sultry blooms are a must-have for the dark flower garden or among similar purple, maroon, and deeply-hued mixed Perennial borders and Cottage Gardens! Adding depth and contrast among brighter chartreuse foliage plants and create the perfect backdrop row to highlight other plants in the summer garden bed!
Chocolate Gladiolus becomes easy upscale thrillers and seasonal planter accents on the front and back porch containers, in mixed pots on your patio, and creates vertical interest anywhere in the sunny landscape! Groupings and rows amplify their effect so order several Chocolates, or mix and match with other Gladiolia varieties for a gorgeous display! Great for lining paths, or in a tidy row or zigzag along a fence line or rock wall.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Gladiolus, sometimes spelled Gladiola and Gladioli plural, flowers best in full sun in cooler growing zones but appreciates afternoon shade in hot climates. Growing as seasonal annuals in all growing zones but are hardy perennials you can leave in the ground in USDA planting zones 8 to 10. Any well-drained soil environment works great and these corms grow best when their soil isn't soggy and highly organic. These bulbs do appreciate moderate yet regular moisture access.
Plant these corms, which are round, squat little bulb-like structures, in the spring. Plant them about 6-8 inches deep. Groupings and rows have the biggest effect and impact on your garden, so plant your corms pointy side up about 5-6 inches apart.
Stake your flower wands unless you plant your Glads in a location protected from the wind. Deadhead the flowering spire as soon as the last flower fades but keep the greenery to make food for the bulb until they turn yellow. In zones 1 through 7, lift your corms up and store them for the winter in a cool, dry location. Each year you'll notice more and more little corms forming around the base of the parent corm for more blooms each year!
