Butterfly Bushes need the full sun to prevent them from becoming leggy and sparsely flowered. But in the hottest of its favored growing zones, Buzz™ Purple does appreciate some afternoon shade. These plants need a place in your garden with good drainage away from soggy soil. Plant in enriched soil with Nature Hills Root Booster, then water regularly until established, then Buddleia can be low-moisture usage plants! You will keep the blooms popping with supplemental water during drought and high summer temperatures, as well as with regular Deadheading. That way you will have flowers well into autumn.

Provide 3-4 inches of arborist mulch to hold in moisture and insulate the roots. Once winter hits, Butterfly Bushes act as herbaceous Perennials and die back to the ground in cold winters. In warmer climates, they act as woody shrubs. Either way, prune them back in spring to 12 inches to rejuvenate the entire plant.
