The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Echinacea is an American native perennial that has been a mainstay of gardens since the first was discovered in the vast prairies of the mid-west! Due to intensive breeding programs over the last decade, their popularity has skyrocketed! In addition to the initial purple and yellow, they now come in a rainbow of colors!

One, though, comes in a rainbow of colors on one flower! Introducing the Butterfly™ series Rainbow Marcella Coneflower PP28573 (Echinacea purpurea 'Rainb299') that displays a mouthwatering array of juicy sherbet colors! It starts off the summer as a sassy tangerine dream and ages from the center out to a blushing raspberry royale! The two-toned effect of the orange and pink together is luscious!

Pollinators will agree and arrive in droves to sip nectar from the spikey domed burgundy centers! Blooming from summer and reblooming until fall, these have a long-lasting vibrant display! Backed by a well-branched flourish of dark green pointed foliage, these hardy perennials thrive throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9. Reaching a bit wider than tall, these space-saving plants spread about 2 feet wide.

Planting and Application:

Rainbow Marcella is both a cool sherbert hue that won't melt in the sun, but also a warm and vibrant color that seems to embody the summer sun! It melds beautifully with any other sun garden perennial in your landscape! Mellowing out reds and oranges, while adding depth to pinks and yellows, these become interesting counterpoints to blue and purple blooms and dark evergreens!

These are beautiful cut flowers, too. The more you cut, the more they flower! That means more blooms for you and the many bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects that will arrive to sip nectar and collect pollen! So be sure to include Rainbow Marcella in your Pollinator and Wildflower Borders, Cottage Gardens, Cutting Gardens, and upscale prairie or meadow installations! Songbirds love the seeds held in the high central cones and if you let the flowers dry on the plant they make striking winter silhouettes.

Both garden beds and borders gain varied edging and planters and mixed containers on porches and patios gain prominent focal points! Spice up the pool seating area with Butterfly™ Coneflowers in decorative pots, add some welcome warmth to your front porch in terra cotta planters, or dress up a balcony with vibrant blooms in the sun!

Keeping their hardy native habits, these easy-to-grow perennials are perfect for new gardeners, busy gardeners, and some pretty harsh sites! Include Coneflower in your Fire-Wise landscaping plan, Xeric Gardens, Rock Gardens, and that hell strip along a road, sidewalk, or sunny pathway! They look great on their own, or amplify their multi-hued effect by planting Rainbow Maricella in groups, rows, and en masse!

This plant is deer and rabbit resistant so there is no worry about planting Coneflower in out-of-the-way locations.

  • Fruity Sherbert Hues of Rosy Pink & Juicy Orange
  • Color-Changing Blooms From Summer Til Frost!
  • Vital Pollinator & Bird-Friendly Blooms
  • Lush Green Foliage Mounds & Very Hardy
  • Fantastic Color In Sun Gardens, Beds & Borders, Containers & En Masse

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant Butterfly™ Rainbow Marcella in full sun and average well-drained soil and watch her explode with color! Provide new plants with regular applications of water and keep blooms popping with supplemental moisture access during extended heat and drought. But once established Rainbow Marcella is an easy-to-grow herbaceous perennial that will bring you years of pleasure! She also becomes more heat and drought-tolerant as the years go by!

Not particular on soil type, any well-drained soil that's been enriched is best. Use a raised bed, or grow them in containers if you have poorly drained soil that retains water for a long time. This tough plant is drought tolerant once established but will perform its best with medium moisture soil that drains very well. All plants appreciate being planted with Nature Hills Root Booster for life-long symbiotic root support, and a nice blanketing of 3-4 inches of arborist bark chips.

Deadheading encourages more branching and if spent flowers are removed, this will encourage continued blooms and improve the appearance of the plant. If you leave some spent blooms on the plants in the fall, their seeds provide winter food for birds. You can enjoy the dried seed heads as well because they will provide architectural interest in the winter. Divide clumps when they become overcrowded, about every 4 years.

  • Loves Full Sun!
  • Any Well-Drained Soil Location
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
  • Deadhead For Rebloom & Divide Every 4 Years
  • Deer Resistant, Drought-Tolerant, Heat, Sun, & Cold-Tolerant
