Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

A Charming Plant for wet areas, very few flowers are as unique as those labeled 'bottlebrush'. They are usually bristly tubes that appear almost 'fuzzy' and they are dead ringers for their namesake cleaning utensil!

Of the several plants that have this name, Bottlebrush Sedge (Carex comosa) is the most petite and hardiest of the native Sedge varieties. Bottlebrush Sedge has lime-green 'bristles' that are very attractive when they bloom. The fountain-like green leaves are sure to add motion and texture to your garden.

Hardy natives throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8 and grow into spreading clumps 2-4 feet in height when in bloom and 2-3 feet in width. Loving moist soil and found growing along river edges and boggy locations.

Landscape Application:

Sedges are a group of plants that are very Grass-like in appearance, but they thrive in wet conditions - think pond, pool, and as well as fountain over-splash zones. Bottlebrush Sedge is an especially nice choice for rain gardens and retention areas.

Use them in masses to great effect or plant just a few to highlight an area. The fibrous roots stabilize soil along shorelines, river banks, and pond edges and are super showy when in bloom, or the fine-textured blades wave and shimmer in the sunlight!

These graceful Sedges look beautiful tumbling over rocks or edges in the garden, or en masse as a sweeping perennial groundcover. In smaller settings, container gardens and mixed planters or small container ponds and fountains gain a showy accent!

  • Native Grass In North America
  • Long Slender Blades Of Glossy Green
  • Unique Light Green Bottlebrush Clustered Flowers
  • Great For Water Gardens & Wet Areas
  • Massing, Containers, Beds & Borders

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Sedges do wonderful in sun or light shade and need well-drained soil that won't become stagnant. These are native plants, so they adapt very well to many areas and soils as long as they are damp. They like it wet, so keeping them moist will be your biggest issue. These are deer-resistant and relatively disease-free, so plant them and breathe easy - they are super simple to care for! Prune back in the early spring before new growth emerges.

  • Sun & Part Shade Tolerant
  • Moderate to Higher Moisture - Thrives in Wet Areas
  • Any Well-Drained Soil Locations
  • Evergreen in Warmer Zones
  • Adaptable & Low-Maintenance

Showy spikey flowers and glossy green fountains of native beauty, the water-loving Bottlebrush Sedge Grass at NatureHills.com will shine!
