The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Growing Zones
Big fine-textured fountains of steely blue-green, the Blue Fountain Switch Grass PP#28192 (Panicum virgatum 'Blue Fountain') is a durable Panicum that doesn't believe in laying low! Upright and towering to around 8 feet, these water-fountain-like airy grasses feature wispy plumes in the summer of greenish-tan flowers.
Adding a Zen-like swishing sound as it sways and gently rustles in the breeze, these are fantastic plants when you want white noise and motion in the landscape as well as a cool-blue, sizeable form! Each wide blade rises up and then flops over at the end, waving and flickering in the breeze yet standing up to snow and wind all winter long!
Switch Grass is cold and heat tolerant, easily standing up to USDA planting zones 4 to 9, growing up to 6-8 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide when mature! Showy all year round, these Grasses take on orange and red fall color before becoming a lovely tan for the winter. This perennial Grass shelters and feeds songbirds over the winter and the dried seedheads provide much-needed winter interest.
Landscape Application:
Blue Fountain Switch Grass is a mighty specimen, standing out among darker evergreens and more verdant shrubs and plants with its steely hue. Block the wind around a fire pit or line the hot sunny side of your home with a row of these low-maintenance plants!
Handling both drought and wetter areas along ponds and streams, this versatile Panicum works in both Rock gardens, Xeric sites, Firewise landscapes, and Rain Garden edges! Try massing for erosion control or to stabilize a bank with a beautiful swaying cool-blue beauty that stands up strong and tall!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Switch Grass is a warm-season grass so it may take a bit to get going in the spring, but thrive through the heat and full sun of the summer months. Plant in about any kind of well-drained soil and give new plants a regular schedule of moderate moisture access and a mulched bed for best results. Wait until early spring (before new growth emerges) to bundle up the entire clump and cut back to about 6 inches above the ground. Rake out the interior and divide clumps every 3-5 years to maintain their vigor.
- Full Sun For Strongest Growth
- Any Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture - Drought Tolerant Once Established
- Prune Back Early Spring
