Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

At Nature Hills we handle, package and ship the products you order with the utmost care to ensure healthy delivery. Shipping and handling charges are calculated based on the tables below. Black Ice Plum Tree (Prunus 'Lydecker') is one of the largest hybrid Japanese Plums that displays dark purple smooth skin and super tasty flesh! Featuring a Cherry-Plum parent, the flavor is sweet and slightly tart, making it a prized dessert Plum!

Springs white blossoms are always a welcome sight and your pollinators will quickly swoop in to sip nectar and perform the job of pollination! Soon the large fruit forms, usually in July, becoming round and near-black. The sweet, juicy, and firm flesh is a creamy yellowish-red with a semi-clingstone pit.

These smaller trees can grow a bit wider than tall, and this is because the growth spreads out and then weeps down beautifully! Creating a lovely form in the landscape as it fills out with lush green foliage!

Black Ice Plum Tree is a must-have for cold climates! Growing from USDA growing zones 3 and up, this Japanese Plum is ideal for Midwest gardeners! Plant a Santa Rosa, American Plum, Toka, La Crescent, or other Japanese Plum for cross-pollination and ensure a good harvest! Even though this tree is small, you may not feel you have room for a second, but you can prune your second tree smaller or use high-density planting techniques to save space!

Planting and Application:

Black Ice Plum Trees are so picturesque when they're grown, adding their weeping form to your front yard curb appeal and edible landscaping! The pretty form is made even better by its smaller form! Any sized garden with a sunny location gains a ton of perks - best of all the delicious fruit!

Use your summer harvest as fresh-eating snacks, healthy treats, and as dessert fruit in pies and tarts! You will even enjoy flavorful preserves and sauces!

The flowers brighten your spring landscape and soon the dark glossy fruit form and will be turning heads as they ripen among the glossy green leaves! You will love watching your harvest ripen from your front porch or back seating areas!

Add to linear hedgerows to increase pollination with a pollination partner or as an easy-to-include tree to your existing orchard! Black Ice is easygoing enough to work anywhere!

  • Deep Purple Japanese Plum!
  • Sweet, Firm & Juicy Yellow/Red Semi-Cling Fruit
  • July Harvest of Large Round Fruit
  • Pollinates With Other Japanese Plums
  • Lovely Weeping Form For Edible Landscaping!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plum Trees are very easy to grow! They need full sun for the most blooms and therefore the most fruit! Choose a location in at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day, in a location with good air circulation, and away from low-lying areas that may accumulate cold spring air. You will also want to choose a location in well-drained soil that is enriched, and topped with a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch to keep the roots insulated and help retain moisture more efficiently.

Water new trees regularly and do not let them dry out! Once established, keep moisture available throughout the growing season and do not let trees go through drought. Fertilize each spring with a quality fruit tree formula. Prune Plum trees in the very early spring to control size, but you can remove suckers, and water growth, and prune to open the interior to air and sun any time.

  • Full Sun
  • Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Regular Water & Loves Mulched Beds
  • Prune Early Spring
  • Easy to Grow, Self-Fruitful & Cold-Hardy
  • 400-500 Chill Hours
