The dark garnet-hued Black Touch Dahlia (Dahlia 'Black Touch') is a Fimbriata bloom on dark stems! The layers upon layers of slender petals resemble soft Cactus-type pom-poms and can grow up to 6 inches wide!

These deeply-hued blooms have slightly lighter older petals as they open becoming ruby for a gradient effect on mature blooms! The backdrop of lush green glossy leaves compliments the dark color beautifully, growing 3 to 4 feet tall but only spreading 18-24 inches wide.

Black Touch Dahlia is easy to grow in all USDA growing zones! Use them as seasonal accents and annual thrillers in pots and planters. Dahlia tubers need dug in the fall and stored for the winter if you live in a cold growing zone where the ground freezes. In frost-free winters, Dahlia can be kept in-ground all year round.

Landscape Application:

Add luxurious rich color to your garden beds and borders with these tall blooms. The elegant stems and mounded leaves add their dramatic coloration to pathways and walkway border gardens. Use in the garden for taller, back-of-the-border accents throughout Rose gardens, dark foliage and dark flower gardens, cottage borders, and as dramatic cut flower garden additions!

Black Touch Dahlias are very easy to grow in containers and planters to add incredible height and dramatic color to balcony container gardens, porch, and patio planters, and as fantastic fillers, specimens, and accents to your deck seating, and entertaining areas where Black Touch is sure to be a conversation starter! Mix with contrasting Creeping Jenny or complimenting Ajuga planted around the edges as spillers!

For warm, frost-free growing zones, Use Dahlia as back-of-the-garden specimens and along pathways and fencelines! Anywhere you use this darkling, the pollinators will stop by for a visit and hummingbirds will be drawn in as if spellbound!

  • Lush Green Foliage & Very Tall Stems
  • Many Buds Open All Summer & Fall

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant Dahlia tubers in full sun for the best growth and the most blooms! The morning sun is best due to its drying power to clear the leaves of dew. Delicate Dahlia foliage also appreciates afternoon shade in hot climates and everywhere they love good air circulation! The key to successfully growing Dahlias is well-enriched soil with regular fertilizer. It is recommended that you add 3-4 inches of arborist bark mulch for consistent soil moisture and protect the roots.

Even though they are often referred to as 'bulbs' the roots of the Dahlia are tubers like potatoes and sprout from the 'eyes'. Plant Dahlia tubers between 10-12 inches deep in loosened, enriched soil. These modified roots need to be planted in very well-drained soil that won't become soggy. Tubers planted directly in the ground will start to sprout in about 3 weeks depending on your climate and weather.

Deadhead regularly for continuous rebloom and trim back yellowed foliage in the fall. Dig up the tubers for the winter. Store these bulbs in a cool, dark place for the winter.

Forming from bulb-like tubers, these perennials need protection from freezing temperatures. While Dahlia can be planted in all growing zones, climates with cold winters need to "lift" the tubers in the fall before the ground freezes.

  • Full Sun & Partial/Afternoon Shade In Hot Climates
  • Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Tolerates Moderate to Moist Locations
  • Prune After Foliage Yellows & Lift Tubers In Fall
  • Quality Tubers With Multiple Eyes Each
