Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Growing Zones
Flirtatious and elegant, the Black Stockings Meadow Rue (Thalictrum aquilegiifolium 'Black Stockings') will bring fancy finery to your garden's back borders! Think of a Columbine and then make it bigger and bolder in every way and you get the Meadow Rue!
Dainty pinkish-purple fairy bells soar up to 6 feet high on slender jet-black stems, giving Black Stockings its name! Floating high above a clump of elegantly lacy green leaves that spread politely just 18-24 inches wide.
Flowering in the summer months, these airy flower clusters bring in the bees and butterflies and you may even enjoy seeing a curious hummingbird stop by! Snip the many stems for your bouquets indoors too!
Meadow Rue grows fairly quickly throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 9, and received awards and accolades from the Royal Horticultural Society. Pest and disease-free, rabbits and deer will rarely be a problem with these widely underused perennials!
Landscape Application:
Black Stockings Meadow Rue is a tall specimen when in flower! A graceful back-of-the-border focal point and pretty punctuation mark in your sun to shaded mixed perennial gardens, Cottage gardens, and the English Cut Flower border. Large planters gain a filler and thriller, as the ferny foliage and airy blooms shine each year! Plant in your Rose Gardens, or among mixed shrub borders for a pleasant pop of color each summer.
Meadow Rue is a must-have for Pollinator gardens and wildflower borders where it frolics as a gorgeous foliage plant when not in flower! Ideal for woodland gardens because of Meadow Rue's tolerance for some shade, you can plant these perennials in out-of-the-way locations without worrying the deer will mow them down.
- Pinkish Purple Bell-Shaped Flowers Held In Tall Airy Clusters
- Lacy Bright Green Foliage Mounds
- Enticing Black Stems Contrast Against The Leaves & Blooms
- Pollinator-Friendly & Gorgeous Cut Flowers!
- Back-Of-The-Border Focal Points, Specimens, Summer Color & Large Planter Accents
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Thalictrum is easy to grow, and these meadow wildflowers just need full sun in cooler climates and a touch of shade in warmer growing zones. Plant these perennials in about any kind of well-drained soil that is well enriched with organic matter. Provide regular moisture access for new plants, and keep the soil moderately moist at all times for best results. A 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch will help keep soil moisture consistent and enrich the soil.
Deadhead after the flowers fade to tidy up the foliage mounds, and in the fall after frost has killed the tops back, prune these perennials back and heap a 3-4 inch deep layer of compost and/or mulch around their crowns for winter protection, especially in cooler growing zones.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Rich Well-Drained Soil
- Regular Yet Moderate Moisture Access
- Deadhead After Bloom Fades & Prune Back Late Fall
- Deer & Rabbit Resistant
Light and airy, yet fun and flirty, Black Stockings Meadow Rue brings your garden the height without taking up all the space! Add this fun little number to your landscape when you order now at NatureHills.com!
