Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Growing Zones 4-9
Dynamic color and frilly crested flowers, the Purple Rooster Bee Balm (Monarda didyma 'Purple Rooster') is a showy clump-forming plant of the Mint family, keeping its family fragrant flowers and aromatic foliage!
With incredible bee and butterfly drawing power, Purple Rooster will really "strut its stuff" in the landscape with its deep wine-colored flowers that appear as "raspberries" in the bud stage. The square, rigid stems are lined with eaves in green to pale green and wonderfully scented. Growing two to three feet tall, depending on the variety. Fine dense hairs cover much of the stem and leaves, giving them a fuzzy appearance and feel.
This Bee Balm is easy to grow, multiplies quickly, and is native to eastern North America, also known as Oswego Tea or Bergamot, Monarda has minty aromatic foliage often used to flavor teas.
Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, and grows up to 3 feet tall when in bloom! The clumps spread up to 26 inches wide but can spread further by way of their Mint Family underground stolons.
Landscape Application:
Radiant accents, Purple Rooster will enliven a cottage garden or rock garden, showing off among other purple, blue, and red flowers! Mix with other Bee Balm, sun garden perennials, and in mixed wildflower borders, all of which are sure to bring in bees, butterflies, and even hummingbirds!
Easy en masse and groupings because of their ability to spread, so you'll create gorgeous drifts, long winding rows, and easy-breezy pops of color that won't take loads of maintenance and fussing to keep Purple Rooster looking its best!
Even container gardens and mixed planters gain a showy thriller! Decorate your sunny porches and patios where you can enjoy the pollinators up close, or around pools and seating areas where brushing past the blooms or foliage perfumes the air!
- Saturated Purple Blooms
- Aromatic Foliage & Upright Form
- Showy Pollinator Plants & Cut Flowers
- Spreading Creeping Clumps
- Dramatic Specimens, Easy En Masse & Groupings & Bright Accents
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Bee Balm flowers best in full sun and tolerate partial shade in hotter climates. Although it will grow in average soil, it does enjoy the rich organic moist, and well-drained soil. Provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the roots to keep them insulated and retain soil moisture more consistently.
In the fall, cut back to 6 inches above the ground. Deadhead the spent flowers to prolong the bloom time and keep the plants looking tidy. Bee Balms do best with good air circulation and because Bee Balm has a tendency to be an aggressive spreader in some settings, so to keep plants healthy and vigorous, division is necessary every few years and should be done in the spring.
- Full Sun Plants - Part Shade In Hot Climates
- Must Have Good Drainage & Enriched Sites
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Deadhead For Chance Rebloom & Prune Back In Fall
- Deer & Rabbits Seldom Eat Bee Balm
