Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

The showy red Gardenview Scarlet Bee Balm (Monarda x 'Gardenview Scarlet') also known as Bergamont, Horsemint, and Oswego Tea, is an ornamental clump-forming perennial that has tubular, two-lipped, red rose flowers with dark green aromatic foliage. Flowering for weeks in the summer, the whorled flowers sit atop pink-tipped pale green bracts that age bronzy for a unique accent to the already showy blooms!

Aromatic members of the Mint Family, Bee Balms leaves of Monarda can be used for teas and in salads, or just enjoyed when brushed against while out in your garden! Forming spreading clumps, the upright square stems hold the unique flowers aloft for the many butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds that will stop by to sip the nectar!

The whimsical blooms grow atop 3-foot tall stems and spread into clumps about 30 inches wide. Cold and heat-tolerant throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 9, few areas around the country can't enjoy these incredible perennials!

Landscape Application:

Both in the ground and in containers, Gardenview Scarlet Bee Balms grow about anywhere in the sun and are very easy to grow, fast-growing, and incredibly showy!

When massed, Monarda provides massive color and contrast for the summer perennial border, wildflower garden, meadow, and naturalized areas! Wonderful prairie plants that are widely adaptable, use Monarda along ponds or streams and in moist locations as edging, and in mid to back of the border landscape beds!

These aromatic plants are also ideal as showy accents in herb gardens and Veggie gardens where they bring in the pollinators for your produce! Must haves for the cut flower garden and Pollinator border, but also gorgeous focal points in the Cottage Garden and mixed Perennial border.

  • Rose Red Showy Blooms
  • Fragrant With A Long Bloom Period
  • Gray Green Aromatic Foliage & Upright Growth
  • Attracts Pollinators & Hummingbirds
  • Great Cut Flowers, Container Thrillers, Specimens & En Masse

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Monarda needs to be planted in full sun but will tolerate afternoon shade. Grandview Scarlet is best grown in rich soil in a well-drained area, not being allowed to dry out. Water regularly during the summer to support the blooms and provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the roots to keep them insulated and retain soil moisture more consistently.

In the fall, cut back to 6 inches above the ground. Deadhead the spent flowers to prolong the bloom time and keep the plants looking tidy. Bee Balms do best with good air circulation and because Bee Balm has a tendency to be an aggressive spreader in some settings, so to keep plants healthy and vigorous, division is necessary every few years and should be done in the spring. Gardenview Scarlet is an improved variety and highly resistant to powdery mildew!

  • Full Sun Plants - Part Shade In Hot Climates
  • Must Have Good Drainage & Enriched Sites
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Deadhead For Chance Rebloom & Prune Back In Fall
  • Highly Resistant To Powdery Mildew
  • Deer & Rabbits Seldom Eat Bee Balm

Showy red whimsical blooms and fragrant foliage, the Gardenview Scarlet Bee Balm will add its long summer blooms and easy-to-grow nature to your landscape! Order now at NatureHills.com and bring in the pollinators!
