Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Barbados Cherry Tree (Malpighia emarginata), also known as Spanish Cherry or Acerola Trees, can be found throughout the Indies and even growing in southern Texas where it thrives in growing zones 9 and up as a great fruiting tropical tree or large shrub!

Blooming in spring with a flush of pinkish lavender blossoms, your tree will be abuzz with pollinators and bees! The fragrant blooms sometimes appear year-round in warmer climates. Soon giving way to the glossy red fruit that shines among the bright green glossy foliage!

Modestly sized, reaching an easy-to-reach 12-18 feet tall, you can keep these pruned smaller yet to make harvest easier, or to tuck into an existing orchard or smaller property. An interesting Cherry tree, known to possess strong medicinal properties, rich nutritional content, mainly Vitamin C content. It is rich in vitamin A and vitamins B1, B2, and B3, as well as a rich source of bioflavonoids and carotenoids, which provide a high nutritive value and antioxidants!

Planting and Application:

Barbados Cherry are fantastic screening plants for privacy and creating ornamental small informal groups. Perfect edible landscaping plants, the fruit is commonly used to make pulps, juices, and vitamin C concentrates. It is also a common ingredient in baby foods. Acerola is also grown as an ornamental for your edible gardening needs.

Late-summer ripening fruit, a single medium-sized tree produces loads of deliciously exceptional fruit - season in and season out! Plant it as a specimen tree in your yard, or start a small orchard for a more bountiful harvest!

  • Partial Shade/Partial Sun Locations
  • Moderate Moisture & Consistent Fertilizer
  • Prune After Fruiting
  • See our Garden Blog for more Fruit Tree Care
  • Less Than 100 Chill Hours
