Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Beautifully deep red skin and flesh are the hallmarks of Balaton™ Tart Cherry (Prunus cerasus 'Balaton'). For a sour pie cherry, Balaton™ is quite high in natural sugar, and you'll love not needing to add a drop of red food coloring! This Hungarian cultivar more than earns its place in the backyard orchard with its rich, well-balanced flavor and Morello-style fruit!

The high pigmentation throughout the fruit creates gorgeously colored juice, pies, preserves and syrup! Juice it or dry your harvest for healthy antioxidants to help with inflammation! Measuring in at over 16 Brix sugar content, Balaton™ is best described as "sweet-tart" so this versatile choice is exceptional for wine, in baked goods and can be enjoyed fresh from your tree! It's best known as a supreme pie cherry!

Bursting into spring with drifts of pure white, fragrant blossoms, this cold-hardy Cherry tree is a partially self-pollinating cultivar, so you can grow fruit from a single tree! However, if you plant them with another Cherry tree as a pollination partner; you gain more cherries from both trees!

Planting and Application:

Grow several together as a high-density hedgerow that provides both privacy for you and shelter and food for songbirds. Space them from three to five feet apart from center to center and keep them summer pruned for size control for screening. A grouping provides shade and bountiful fruit!

Of course, you'll also love the looks of Balaton™ in your landscape. From their white spring blooms for pollinators to the jewel-toned fruit, Balaton™ is a charming tree for both front and back yard ornamental edible flowering landscaping! Winter brings a new dimension to the tree as the picturesque branching can really show off!

  • Sweet-Tart Richly Colored Fruit - Resists Cracking
  • Pies, Jam, Juice, Dried & Fresh Eating
  • Late Season Harvest
  • Fragrant Pure White Blossoms
  • Partially Self-Fruitful

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Fruit trees do best with well-drained soil, good air circulation and full sun with at least six hours of sunlight a day. Be sure to include symbiotic Nature Hills Root Booster when planting for the life-long support of the tiny feeder roots.

  • Full Sun
