Growing Zones 4-8
Enjoy three seasons of vibrant interest in the landscape with the Autumn Jazz® Arrowwood Viburnum (Viburnum dentatum 'Ralph Senior')! This vase-shaped deciduous shrub features creamy-white flowers blooming from late May to mid-June. Looking like Elderflowers or Queen Anne's Lace, the lacy blooms beckon pollinators from far and wide!
Viburnums tend to be multi-season plants with ornamental value throughout a significant portion of the year! Butterflies seeking nectar and bees collecting pollen will love the flowers as much as you will! These flat umbels of foamy, frothy-looking, tiny white flowers grow in clusters that act as the perfect landing pad for beneficial insects! The lush leaves are an exciting green and feature dainty toothy edges and neatly pleated textures.
The summer foliage is crisp and dark green and transforms into gorgeous fall colors ranging from yellow, orange, and red to burgundy, and can vary in intensity! This Viburnum then produces clusters of blue-black berries, and the fruit is highly sought-after by songbirds in search of a fall snack before winter. Considered edible for humans too, the large seeds make them not worth the effort.
For the best fruit set and the most ornamental fall display possible, plant another Arrowwood Viburnum or Viburnum dentatum nearby for cross-pollination.
Planting and Application:
Autumn Jazz® Arrowwood Viburnum grows to an impressive-sized shrub but can be pruned to any size. You can even limb-up these large shrubs and train them into unique tree-form specimens with a multi-trunk appearance. This Viburnum is useful for its extreme durability in borders, screens, parking lots, and mass plantings.
The selection of this hardy native bush will happily show off in a partially shady corner of your garden. It will perform equally well in a sunny spot. You'll want to be sure to site it where you'll see it, either from the house or along the path to a special destination spot in your landscape. Give it plenty of room to grow into its mature size and spread. This is a plant that looks best in a naturalized setting. For informal hedges and privacy screens, these colorful flowering ornamentals will add lush seclusion to your backyard retreats!
These shrubs naturally maintain a pleasing vase shape! They are cold-hardy in USDA hardiness zones 4-8 and are densely branched, providing privacy as fantastic hedges, borders, and property division. They can get tall enough to become great windbreaks and you can plant in groups to provide shelter for birds and wildlife. Highly adaptable, any sunny location is ideal for these flowering plants!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Autumn Jazz® prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil for the best growth possible, but Viburnum are notable for tolerating wet sites and even some dry spells as well. It does prefer slightly acidic soil. Give new plants a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Once their roots are established in your soil, they are more resilient. However, if you have an extended dry period without rainfall, be sure to soak the ground all around the plant. Cover the root system with a thick layer of mulch to conserve moisture and extend the time between watering.
Prune to shape immediately after the flowers fade if needed, but you'll miss out on the fruit. Instead, you can periodically Renewal prune your shrub by cutting out the thickest, oldest stems from the base of the plant to rejuvenate it and maintain a smaller size. Have care when doing this, as you want to ensure that a balanced canopy will remain. Trim any suckers that emerge from the roots in early spring if you prefer or allow them to expand your planting over time. These are highly regarded for their deer-resistant and Black Walnut Tree juglone-resistant capabilities!

Does Autumn Jazz® Viburnum Spread?

How tall is Autumn Jazz® Viburnum?
The mature height of an Autumn Jazz® Viburnum in optimal conditions is 10-12 feet, with a mature spread of 8-10 feet wide.
Will Autumn Jazz® Viburnum grow in shade?
The Autumn Jazz® Viburnum can grow in full sun and partial shade, for the strongest growth, and best color, plus for more flowers and fruit, provide at least 5-6 hours of sun a day. These will not do well in full shade.
Are Autumn Jazz® Viburnum berries poisonous to dogs?
There are no Viburnum dentatum varieties listed on the ASPCA website for dogs as being toxic or poisonous. As always, know your pets and monitor your pets when they're outside, even if one animal is not sensitive to a plant or berry, that doesn't mean there is no possibility of another not having an allergy or having a reaction.
How do you care for an Autumn Jazz® Viburnum?
These are incredibly easy-care shrubs that need full sun or partial shade in a well-drained, moderately moist environment. Well-drained enriched soil and mulched beds are preferred.
