Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

The National Audubon Society presents a new line of native plants and trees that helps birds and wildlife thrive in your area! The Audubon® Native Washington Hawthorn Tree (Crataegus phaenopyrum) is the last of the Hawthorne's to bloom so there’s no worry about a late freeze killing off your flowers and fruit!

Highly ornamental trees, these natives mature with a rounded crown. The new foliage begins a reddish-purple color when unfurling and gradually changes to a beautiful, deep green. Clusters of brilliant-white flowers show off against the dark lustrous-emerald foliage. This is quite a showy bird-friendly tree.

The Washington Hawthorne is known for its stunning fall color! Its striking orange, scarlet, and even purple leaves in the fall make this a showstopper in your yard. Adorned with copious clusters of shiny red fruits all winter long, the birds and wildlife will savor these as they nest safely among the thorned branches. The red berries and gray trunk provide winter interest.

Planting and Application:

Washington Hawthorn Trees can be dense and lush, often grown as a hedge for a screen or security. The thorns deter any 2 or 4 legged trespassers while providing your local bird population security and protection. Lovely when planted in small groups, as a specimen in a lawn, or a street tree.

Supporting a variety of butterfly and moth larvae as a Host Plant, the Gray Hairstreak, Red-spotted Purple and Viceroy Butterflies benefit from this tree! Not to mention the Hummingbirds seeking nectar from the blooms. Songbirds like Cedar Waxwings, Quail, Turkeys and small mammals eat the fruit.

  • Shiny Red Fruits - Healthy Fruit For Humans & Birds
  • Late Blooming White Flowers
  • Ornamental Tree
  • Supports Waxwings, Finches, Thrushes, Cardinals, Mockingbirds & More
  • Hedge & Screen or Specimen

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Hawthorn Trees do the very best in full sun. You’ll get the most blooms and therefore fruit when planted in at least 6 hours or more of sunlight a day. Hardy and adaptable, these natives tolerate a wide range of conditions.

  • Full Sun
  • Tolerates Urban Pollution
  • Wide-Range of Soil & pH Preferences
  • Resistant to Fireblight & Salt Tolerant
  • Prune When Dormant

Audubon® Native Washington Hawthorn Tree is a fantastic addition to the bird-friendly landscape! Berries for you and your feathered friends, lush foliage and gorgeous blooms! Order this heart-healthy and wildlife native today at NatureHills.com!
