Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

The National Audubon Society presents a new line of native plants and trees that will help birds and wildlife thrive in your area! One Beautiful shrub is the Audubon® Native Shrub Indigo (Amorpha fruticosa) produces ample seed in the autumn for birds but is mostly used to provide cover and shelter.

The soft, airy and informal, spreading habit of Shrub Indigo fills out with velvety leaves, divided into pinnately compound leaflets in an alluring soft sage-green. Summer brings dramatic spikes of dark blue flowers with sparks of yellow stamen! A member of the Pea family, you’ll see this reflected in the flowers and seed pods!

Growing into a thicket if left to its own devices, the Indigo Shrub attracts insect-eating birds and provides ample shelter for wildlife! Bees, butterflies and other pollinators enjoy this unique beneficial native!

Planting and Application:

When planted en masse, this fast-growing Accent quickly forms a thicket, where songbirds and even small game birds like Quail can forage for food and feel safe from predators! Typically found growing throughout USDA zones 4-9, this deciduous shrub has an open, informal growth habit that fills large areas of your property.

Plant this moisture-loving shrub in a Rain Garden or in that low area that tends to be a bit soggy after a rain. Plant along streams and pond edges, and it’s perfect for naturalizing areas, wetlands, pollinators and wet meadows.
