Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

The National Audubon Society presents a new line of native plants and trees that helps birds and wildlife thrive in your area! The Audubon® Native Prairie Rose (Rosa setigera) is a lovely native Rose with a vigorous and versatile nature. Climbing or shrub-form is up to how you use the 12-15 foot long canes!

Fragrant clusters of deep pink flowers bloom from early to mid-summer. Single rows of five petals are perfect landing pads for butterflies! They gradually fade to near-white creating a wonderful multi-hued effect as they smother the bush in summer.

Backdropped by dark green foliage that becomes attractive shades of deep red and purple in autumn, they are excellent substitutes for the invasive, non-native Multiflora Roses. Native Roses have better natural disease resistance than hybrids and are very Easy Care.

Planting and Application:

Prairie Roses need encouragement to climb up arbors or trellis but create thick vertical accents in very little time. Lovely cascading over a slope or hard-to-mow hillside, great erosion control, and gracefully spill over retaining walls or cover unsightly fences.

Trained as a Shrub they are wonderful back-of-the-garden borders and rows for privacy and screening and the thorns make trespassers think twice. Create informal mounding, rambling and clamoring thickets when left to their own devices, Prairie Rose can be trimmed into neat County Garden hedge or naturalized into masses and groups that birds fill with their song as they forage for insects, nest and feed their chicks.

  • Fast-Growing Shrub - Blooms on New Wood
  • Native Vital Nectar Source for Bees
  • Birds Relish the Showy Red Rosehips
  • Climbing, Shrub or Thicket with Training
  • Wildlife Shrub - Shelter, Nesting & Food

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Native Rose Bushes should be pruned in very early spring, cutting back hedges low and trimming back canes just before you see new growth that spring.

  • Full Sun & Partial Sun
  • Tolerates a Wide Range Clay, Loam, & Sandy Soils
  • Dry, Medium, to Moist Well-Drained Soil
  • Mulch Well to Insulate & Hold Moisture
