Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

The National Audubon Society presents a new line of native plants and trees that helps birds and wildlife thrive in your area! The showy Audubon® Native Northern Bayberry Bush (Myrica pensylvanica) is a vital habitat for songbirds, game birds and pollinators! All will appreciate your thoughtful landscape choice!

Bayberries are hard-working, aromatic shrubs that are immensely beneficial Wildlife Shrubs! A dioecious shrub similar to Holly, these dioecious plants are either male or female separate plants. Tiny inconspicuous yellow-green flowers appear on the male plants, providing nectar for native pollinators. The female plants also have small flowers that develop into waxy white berries that provide winter interest and food for birds!

Bird lovers take a look! Migrating birds and game birds eat the energy-rich berries over hard winters. And they're also fantastic Caterpillar Host Plants, with Red-Banded Hairstreak butterflies and Columbia Silkmoths both relying on them. Birds feed on these larvae, and feed their hungry chicks too!

Planting and Application:

Bayberry is great for beginning gardeners. Try it as a street planting without fear of damage from road salt, or easily create attractive hedges, mass plantings, and privacy borders, but also showy enough for use as garden focal points! You'll appreciate the fragrance and privacy.

With dense, bird-friendly branching and a rounded, upright habit. This is a fine choice for naturalizing! Often semi-evergreen in warmer climates, they are deciduous further north. Grow on embankments to control erosion and plant en masse to encourage songbirds to nest in your yard!

  • Dark Green, Dense Aromatic Foliage
  • Showy Clusters of Waxy White Berries - Traditionally Used in Bayberry Candles
  • Bird-Friendly Fragrant Native
  • Attracts Butterflies & Birds
  • Chickadees, Bluebirds, Woodpeckers, Warblers, Titmice, Catbirds, & Thrashers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Found throughout zones 3-7, this historically important native is extremely tolerant and adaptable. Growing in any well-drained soil, including salt, alkaline or acidic soils, and even poor soils. Tolerant of periodic flooding and they are surprisingly drought-tolerant once established.

  • Very Cold Hardy - Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Semi-Evergreen in Warmer Zones
  • Tolerates Coastal & Road Salt & Urban Pollution
  • Prune Late Winter & Mulch Well
  • Deer Resistant

Historical, beneficial and beautiful, the Audubon® Native Northern Bayberry Bush is a perfectly desirable, fragrant, showy plant! Like getting three bushes in one! Order yours today at NatureHills.com today before this one sells out!
