Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

The National Audubon Society presents a new line of native plants and trees that will help birds and wildlife thrive in your area! The ornamental edible Audubon® Native Common Persimmon Tree (Diospyros virginiana) is an adaptable native that bears healthy fruit while bringing an exotic flair to your yard! Enjoyed by Native Americans as a staple food source, your local birds and pollinators also relish this fantastic tree!

Persimmon Trees have wonderful value in a naturalized landscape! The brilliant bright green leaves make this a vigorous Shade Tree and you’ll admire the dark, ruggedly textured bark. The splash of fall color comes in glowing yellow and reddish tones.

Pollinators flock to the attractive greenish-yellow to white blooms in late spring. You need to plant in groups to ensure pollination. Female trees develop bright orange fruit that persists on the tree and you'll love the very distinctive look in winter.

Planting and Application:

Common Persimmon are valuable natives and are popular edible landscaping additions! Shade garden beds or your pato, or set among other fruiting trees to create an orchard or hedgerow that also benefits wildlife!

Many insects and butterflies rely on these trees, and at least 28 types of wildlife eat Persimmons, including raccoons, foxes, black bears and skunks! The list of birds that dine on Persimmons includes Wild Turkeys, Warblers, Waxwings, Catbirds, Robins, Woodpeckers and Mockingbirds.
