Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

The National Audubon Society presents a new line of native plants and trees that helps birds and wildlife thrive in your area! The beautiful Audubon® Native Chickasaw Plum (Prunus angustifolia) is an edible ornamental for the home garden or a naturalized landscape! A true Wildlife Shrub or Tree, you and your wildlife can feast on the small, juicy sweet-tart fruit!

Grown as a multi-stemmed shrub or pruned into a small Flowering tree, adapt it to any landscape use! Spring’s fragrant white blooms are followed by lush summer foliage. Providing backyard birds prime nesting habitat within the dense, twiggy, thorny canopy. In late winter, you'll be excited to see the dark, attractive bark.

Anticipate Brown Thrashers, Mockingbirds, many Sparrows, Vireos, and Painted Buntings, nesting among the branches, eating the fruit and raising chicks among the dense foliage. Many moths and butterflies use Plum trees as Host Plants, feeding on the nectar and food for their larvae!

Planting and Application:

Chickasaw Plums form dense thickets to provide good cover for songbirds and small mammals. Easily pruned into an Ornamental specimen or accent tree, this vigorous native is named to honor the Chickasaw Nation, who used the plums as a food staple and even propagated it.

The very tart fruit is sweetened for preserves and jellies. Birds & mammals also love the fruit so plant hedgerows, shelterbelts or borders of Chickasaw Plum among other Plants for Birds to feed and shelter your wildlife!

  • Vital for Wildlife
  • Self-Pollinating
  • Hardy Native Tree or Shrub
  • Attractive Ornamental Edible
  • White Blooms & Sweet-Tart Plums - Jam, Jelly & Wine
