Looking for a special, kid-friendly fruit to add to your Edible Landscape? Just getting started on your gardening journey, or experienced enough to know a winner when you see one?

With its exceptional flavor and easy-care nature, Cot-N-Candy Aprium (Prunus x ' Cot-N-Candy') is a great choice for the home garden. It is a natural cross of Apricot and Plum. You'll get the taste of an Apricot with the vigor and ease of a Plum!

Grow these tasty, white-fleshed fruits even up into Zone 7. You won't find a hardier white-flesh Apricot.

"Old-Fashioned" white-fleshed Apricots can be temperamental about climate. Use Cot-N-Candy in the lower chill areas of zone 10 and lower into the colder, more unpredictable weather areas of zone 7.

A hardier tree is a more reliable tree. Why take chances? Cot-N-Candy Aprium is a better choice for many backyard orchards.

It's self-pollinating, so you'll enjoy a crop from a single tree. However, if you have the space, you'll increase your yield with a partner tree. Use high-density planting techniques to grow two trees in a single hole.

Plant the very popular yellow-fleshed Flavor Delight Aprium to enjoy fruit from early to mid-season. Trust us, once you taste these special "interspecific" fruits, you'll want all you can possibly get!

Cot-N-Candy produces richly flavored, juicy fruit in the early mid-season. This is no insipid, bland, grocery-store selection. With a well-balanced sweet flavor that is only enhanced by the faint "zing" from its Plum parent, Cot-N-Candy is a versatile fruit.

Enjoy it tree-ripe, still warm from the sun. Or, prep into amazing baked goods or preserves. It can be dried as a healthy snack for later.

Cot-N-Candy is a dependable cropper. Plant it, and it will become a very special treat that you and your family will look forward to each year.

This variety scores very high in taste tests. The rounded Cot-N-Candy fruit features smooth golden-yellow skin with a pretty pink blush.

These are outstanding fruiting trees introduced and patented by Zaiger genetics with Apricot and Plum in its parentage. Don't miss these well-balanced, delicious fruits. After all, they are hardy and easy to grow.

How to Use Cot-N-Candy White Aprium® Interspecific Apricot in the Landscape

These trees have so much to offer modern landscapes. Truly an "Edible Ornamental", you'll enjoy the fragrant white flowers. Cot-N-Candy Aprium ripens in the earlier part of the season, typically right after Cherries are finished.

You'll love the tree for its vigor and reliable harvest. Early in the season, thin your fruit to encourage a full-size mature harvest. Space a single piece of fruit to every five inches for good results.

Pick when fully ripe for the sweetest taste. They'll "give" a bit when gently squeezed. Smell them, too, as ripe fruit becomes aromatic.

They'll last a few days on the counter while fresh. They will keep well in storage for weeks, if you can stop yourself from eating them!

Cot-N-Candy Aprium can be used for all of the same threats as any Apricot variety. It's great for pies, preserves, and of course fresh eating. Dehydrate and freeze for a delicious mid-winter treat. Fresh or dried, enjoy a few thrown into your morning smoothie and get the day started with a real nutritious tasty treat.

Add a tree as a special focal point in a Children's Garden to encourage a lifelong love of fresh fruit. Cot-N-Candy makes a special patio tree in a mulched bed. Or, add to a modern foundation planting, spaced 20 feet away from the corner of your house.

It's time to get real about Food Security. Add fruiting trees to your landscape to make the most out of the sunshine on your property.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Aprium trees need full sun. Select a planting site that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.

The best sun in the early morning sun. Its drying power helps dry out the foliage from overnight dew. Choose morning sun to avoid mildew or bacterial-related problems.

Plant Cot-N-Candy in well-drained soils. They'll adapt to many different soil types as long as the drainage is good.

If your soil retains water for a long time, plant on a mound or raised bed. Bring in additional soil to at least 12 to 18 inches above the soil line and 3 feet wide.

Mulch Cot-N-Candy Aprium to help keep the roots cool and cut down the evaporation of moisture from the surface. Apply your mulch at least 3 to 4 inches deep and out to 3 feet from the outside of the canopy. Just be sure to pull the mulch back from the trunk by several inches.

Prune to create a set of vase-shaped scaffolding branches. The branches are strongest with 45-degree crotch angles.

Remove limbs that grow into the center of the tree. Your goal is to increase the amount of sunlight and air flowing into the canopy.

If you want to maintain your fruit trees at a manageable size for easy harvest, plan to conduct an annual summer pruning. Tip prune the ends of your tree after harvest to keep it the size you want.

Delicious new fruit

Received 12 fruits on two, two year trees. Sweet, very juicy and strong apricot taste. Worried about early blossoms in February in Eugene, Oregon, maybe hand pollination will help.

Hello Dede,

Thank you so much for sharing your delightful experience with your Cot-N-Candy Aprium tree! We’re thrilled to hear that your fruit harvested right now is sweet, juicy, and packed with that strong apricot flavor you were hoping for. It’s wonderful to know your two-year trees are off to such a promising start.

You’ve made a great observation about the early February blossoms in Eugene’s climate! Early blooms can sometimes be vulnerable to cold snaps or limited pollinator activity. Hand pollination is indeed a smart approach and can really help ensure fruit set in those early stages. Using a small, soft paintbrush or cotton swab to gently transfer pollen between flowers can boost your trees’ yield before the bees are fully active.

For additional tips, we also recommend monitoring emerging weather forecasts and, if a late frost seems likely, protecting delicate blossoms overnight with lightweight frost blankets. By maintaining gentle observations and intervening where you can, your apriums will have the best chance to thrive through those early blooms.

Thank you again for trusting Nature Hills with your orchard journey—we’re here if you need any further guidance or seasonal advice!

Received 12 fruits on two, two year trees. Sweet, very juicy and strong apricot taste. Worried about early blossoms in February in Eugene, Oregon, maybe hand pollination will help.

Hello Dede,

Thank you so much for sharing your delightful experience with the Cot-N-Candy Aprium tree! Receiving 12 fruits from two young trees is quite impressive, and we’re happy to hear that you enjoyed their sweet, juicy flavor with that strong apricot taste.

Regarding your worry about the early blossoms in February in Eugene, Oregon, your concern is understandable. Early blooming fruit trees can face chilly weather threats that affect pollination and fruit set. Hand pollination can indeed be a helpful way to ensure the blossoms get the pollen they need, especially if pollinators are scarce in cooler months.

To support your trees during early bloom, consider gently transferring pollen using a small brush from flower to flower on different trees, ideally on mild days when bees may be inactive. Also, monitoring weather conditions and protecting blooms with frost cloths on cold nights can be beneficial.

If you’d like, we have a guide on ‘Hand Pollination Tips for Apriums’ on our website that covers these steps in detail—it might be a handy resource to boost your tree’s success moving forward.

Thanks again, Dede, for your thoughtful review and dedication. We’re here to support your garden any time!

Love my new aprium tree

I bought an Aprium tree in honor of my grandson's birth and planted it in early January. Not being much of a gardener, I had my doubts whether this 'stick' would actually turn into a tree. But it began to grow and fill out and soon there were actually 4 small apriums growing! By late May, while small, they were ripe and the most delicious fruit I've ever had. I love apricots but the aprium is much tastier. The skin of the fruit turned orange/red as it ripened and they were juicy and sweet with the meat separating from the pit easily. The tree is very easy to take care of. It takes water. Beware that slugs like the fruit a lot so I put a bowl of (believe it or not) beer at the base of the tree. The slugs are attracted to the beer and then they die, leaving the fruit alone. Highly recommended.

Dear Twicevirgo,

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with your Cot-N-Candy Aprium Tree! What a beautiful way to celebrate your grandson’s arrival—planting a tree that grows and blossoms alongside him. It’s fantastic to hear how quickly your tree filled out and rewarded you with those delicious apriums. Your description makes the fruit sound truly irresistible!

Your tip about using beer to keep slugs at bay is a clever and effective natural defense—we’re sure other customers will find that very helpful. Since you mention you’re not an experienced gardener, you might find it useful to periodically check out our gardening blog, which covers seasonal tips for maintaining stone fruit trees like apriums. They can assist in keeping your tree healthy and fruitful for many years to come.
