Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

When the Southern Living Plant Collection raves about the intensity of hue of the Amistad Salvia (Salvia x. 'Amistad'), people should stop and take notice! Blooming continuously on new shoots from late spring through frost, these rich, dark purple flowers are held on a nearly black calyx.

Go ahead and take plenty of the midnight blue blooms for your cut flower arrangements. Deadheading actually encourages recurrent flower flushes…so there will be more where those came from, after all!

Amistad means "friendship" and that is what this plant offers for the beneficial pollinators in your local area. Bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies cherish the extended bloom…why not tell a garden story of overcoming hardship and finding plenty of support when you need it most?

Salvia are aromatic plants in the Mint family and carry the same great scent and square stems as the rest of the family. The green leaves are textured and contrast against the darker purple stems, near-black calyx, and unique purple blooms!

Planting and Application:

Compact, upright, the full growth habit really makes this choice worthy of a spot in your mixed beds and borders. Cottage gardens and Mixed Perennial borders gain tall bursts of color, and every Pollinator Garden gains a nectar-rich resource! Of course, you can keep them in containers as the perfect "Filler". In cold winter zones, some people have had success overwintering the planted pot itself in their garage … it's certainly worth a shot!

The depth of tone is truly majestic. Let it play off white, yellow, pink and coral blooms in your garden for a generous touch of drama. Growing tall as annual accents in cooler growing zones but are great perennials throughout the warmer, frost-free climates. Growing up to 3-5 feet in height, Amistad will become a brilliant backdrop or special focal point with blooms lasting through the fall!

  • Deep Purple Blooms & Darker Calyxs & Stems
  • Crinkly Green Aromatic Foliage
  • Nectar-Rich Resource For Pollinators & Hummingbirds
  • Great in the Ground & Containers
  • Easy to Grow Tall Specimens, Focal Points, Big Color & Big Impact

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant these perennials in either full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil. They grow fast and need partial shade (at least four hours of sunlight a day) to do best. Amistad is blissfully sterile and stays put without running rampant or self-seeding. Consistent water keeps these heat-tolerant bloomers happy. Apply some mulch to cover the root zone, then pull it away from touching the stems. Deadhead to keep the blooms popping, then prune them down to the ground in late winter or early spring. You'll have a fresh start to a beautiful new season with new growth from the crown in the warm winter states.

  • Partial Shade/Partial Sun Perennials
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Moist to Average Watering Needs
  • Prune Back Late Fall/Winter
  • Perennial in Frost Free Zones & Annual Accent in Cooler Climates

These desirable plants make a wonderful gift. Gift Amistad Salvia for Mother's Day, or "just because" to show you care with the flower power of Friendship! Order your Amistad Salvia from Nature Hills today!
