Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Growing Zones 3-10
Triple delight, the Dixie Chip Bugleweed (Ajuga 'Dixie Chip') features a trio of oh-so-pretty foliage in the variegated shades of green, cream, and rose-purple! This form of narrow-leaved Bugleweed, also known as Carpet Bugle, has aromatic foliage that will create a spectacular display for your garden when planted in mass!
In mid to late spring, violet-blue flowers appear above the low, spreading foliage and add to the pretty foliage party! Also called Ajuga, it is a member of the Mint family, and this petite form only grows 2-4 inches when in bloom, and only spreads 8-12 inches wide! The tidy mounded yet low-growing perennial clumps can spread and naturalize slowly through the garden.
Pollinators will arrive to sip nectar from the Salvia-like short flower spikes, but you won’t have too much trouble from deer and rabbits! Plus Dixie Chip is incredibly cold and heat-tolerant throughout a wide range of USDA planting zones 3 to 10! In mild winter climates, Ajuga can even remain semi-evergreen!
Landscape Application:
If you are looking for a perennial ground cover to exceed in a hard-to-grow shady area, then Ajuga is the way to go! This Dwarf Bugleweed forms a tight growth habit, making it useful as erosion control on slopes and also as weed-suppressing groundcover throughout the landscape!
Butterflies and hummingbirds are definitely attracted to Dixie Chip's little blooms, not to mention it's considered a low-allergen plant! So go ahead and plant it everywhere! Great as edging and front of the garden border accenting, as spillers and fillers in your pots and planters, or winding throughout Cottage and Rock Gardens in the sun or shade!
Great for where patches of lawn won't grow, or in the understory of trees and the bases of shrubs, Bugleweed is an adaptable little flowering groundcover that just brightens any area it is planted in! You can even pot them up in planters!
- Pretty Petite Purple Flower Spikes
- Rose Splashed Cream & Green

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Dixie Chip will do best in a shaded area but will adapt to the morning sun. Cooler climates can plant perennial Bugleweed in full sun, but they do appreciate some afternoon shade, hot climates can even plant Ajuga in full shade! They prefer moist soil with very good drainage. Bugleweed will tolerate moderately dry areas once it is established. Do try to avoid soggy conditions. Shear or mow over your plants after flowering to tidy up the mounds. Divide as needed and transplant to expand your enjoyment of this pretty plant!
- Sun, Shade & Everything In Between!
- Moderately Moist Well-Drained Soil
- Drought, Cold & Heat Tolerant
- Prune After Flowering
- Deer & Rabbit Resistant Perennial Groundcover
You will find yourself whistling when you see the slender tri-color variegation, pretty purple flowering spikes, and adaptability for your landscape, the Dixie Chip Bugleweed Ajuga will be your new favorite dwarf groundcover! Now available at NatureHills.com!
