Replace, credit, or refund: your choice

The Growing & Glowing Guarantee

Every eligible plant Nature Hills Nursery ships is covered by our 45-day Growing & Glowing Guarantee: if it arrives damaged or dead, or fails to thrive because of a quality issue, you choose a free replacement with free shipping, store credit that never expires, or a full refund, and orders delivered after October 15 stay covered through May 1.

Two levels of coverage

  • Growing & Glowing Guarantee: free on every eligible plant

45 days from delivery. Orders delivered after October 15 are covered through May 1.

    • Covers plants that arrive damaged or dead, or that fail to thrive because of a quality issue
    • Your choice: a free replacement (we cover shipping), store credit that never expires, or a full refund to your original payment method
    • Send photos and an email within 7 days of noticing the problem, while the plant is still covered
    • No restocking or processing fee for any option
  • Growing & Glowing Guarantee Plus: the 1-year warranty

1 year from delivery. Add it once at checkout and it covers every eligible plant in that order, potted plants included. The price is based on the eligible plants in your cart and shows before you pay.

    • Covers properly planted and cared-for plants that fail after the 45-day guarantee ends
    • Remedy: store credit for the plant's cost, plus free shipping on your next order, so the replacement ships free
    • Same photo and 7-day reporting rule as the free guarantee
    • Not sure you bought it? Your order confirmation email and your account's order history list it as its own line, Growing & Glowing Guarantee Plus, under your plants

The rules in plain words

  • One replacement per plant. Each plant is eligible for one replacement, and a replacement plant does not start a new coverage period.
  • No fee for any option. There is no restocking or processing fee for a replacement, store credit, or refund.
  • Nothing to send back. Live plants cannot be returned, so we settle claims from your photos. Keep the plant or compost it.
  • The clock starts at delivery, not at checkout. Your 45 days begin the day the plant arrives. If that day is after October 15, coverage runs through May 1 so a late-season plant gets a real spring first.
  • Store credit never expires. Unlike Rewards points, guarantee credit waits until you use it.
  • Gifts count. If someone bought the plant for you, you can file the claim with the order number.

What's covered and what isn't

  • Covered

    • Plants that arrive damaged or dead
    • Plants that fail to thrive because of a quality issue
    • Problems reported with photos within 7 days of noticing them, while the plant is still covered
    • Late-season orders: delivered after October 15, covered through May 1
    • With Plus, properly planted and cared-for plants that fail within the first year from delivery
  • Not covered

    • Improper planting or inadequate watering
    • Weather extremes
    • Pests or disease after planting
    • Wildlife damage
    • Planting outside your hardiness zone
    • Problems reported more than 7 days after you noticed them, or after coverage ends

Not eligible for either guarantee: annual plants, flower bulbs, grass plugs, hard goods, gift cards, warranty purchases, and shipping fees.

How to file a claim

  • 1. Take photos

One clear photo of each plant you are claiming, in daylight. For a tree or shrub, add a close-up of the scratch test (below) so we can see the tissue under the bark. Send them within 7 days of noticing the problem, while the plant is still covered.

  • 2. Email us

Send the photos and your order number to support@naturehills.com, or write to us from the contact page. Tell us which remedy you would like. A real person on our team reads every claim and replies by email. Spring is our busiest season, so replies can take a few extra days then.

  • 3. Pick your remedy

Under the 45-day guarantee, choose a free replacement (we cover shipping), store credit that never expires, or a full refund. Under Plus, you receive store credit for the plant's cost, plus free shipping on your next order, so the replacement ships free. No fee for any option.

Dormant or dead? Do the scratch test before you file

A plant with no leaves is not always a dead plant. Trees, shrubs, and many perennials ship dormant in fall, winter, and early spring, and a healthy one can sit leafless for weeks after planting.

Scratch a fingernail or the edge of a coin along a small patch of bark on a young stem. Green and moist under the bark means the plant is alive: water it, be patient, and check again in a week or two. Brown, dry, and brittle from the tips down to the base means it is time to send us photos.

If a plant arrives stressed but alive, plant it, water it, and watch it; most settle in within two weeks. That is care advice, not a deadline. As soon as you notice it is not recovering, send photos within 7 days of noticing the issue, while the plant is still inside its coverage window.

Guarantee questions, answered

How do I file a claim, and what do I need to send?

Email support@naturehills.com with your order number, one photo of each plant you are claiming, and the remedy you want. Send it within 7 days of noticing the problem, while the plant is still covered. You can also reach us from our contact page. That is the whole claim.

Do I have to send photos? How many, and what should they show?

Photos are required for every claim: one per plant, showing the whole plant and the trouble spot in daylight. For a tree or shrub, add a close-up of your scratch test so we can see the tissue under the bark. Good photos help us settle your claim faster.

How long do I have to report a problem?

Send photos within 7 days of noticing the issue, while the plant is still covered: 45 days from delivery on the free guarantee, one year from delivery with Plus, and through May 1 for orders delivered after October 15. If a newly arrived plant just looks stressed, keep caring for it and watch it, and report as soon as you notice it is not recovering.

Does the 45 days start when I order or when it arrives?

Coverage starts the day your plant is delivered, not the day you order, and the same is true for the 1-year warranty. If your plant is delivered after October 15, the free guarantee runs through May 1 instead of 45 days, so a late-season plant gets a real spring before its coverage ends.

My plant arrived stressed but alive. Should I wait or report it now?

Plant it, water it, and keep an eye on it; some leaf drop or wilting after shipping is normal, and most plants recover within a week or two. If it arrived broken or clearly dead, send photos now. Otherwise report as soon as you notice it is not recovering, within 7 days of noticing the issue and while the plant is still covered.

Is my plant dead or just dormant? How do I do a scratch test?

Scratch a small patch of bark on a young stem with a fingernail or a coin. Green and moist underneath means the plant is alive and dormant: water it and check again in a week or two. Brown, dry, and brittle from the tips down to the base means it has died, and it is time to send us photos.

What do I get: a replacement, credit, or a refund? Is there a fee? Can I choose?

On the free 45-day guarantee you choose: a free replacement plant with free shipping, store credit that never expires, or a full refund to your original payment method. There is no restocking or processing fee for any option. Each plant is eligible for one replacement, and a replacement does not start a new coverage period.

Do I have to return the plant?

Nothing needs to come back to us. Live plants cannot be returned because of agricultural rules and how perishable they are, so we settle claims from your photos instead. Keep the plant or compost it. Hard goods are different: unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days for a refund, minus return shipping.

How do I know if I bought Guarantee Plus, and what does it cost?

Check your order confirmation email or your account's order history: Plus appears as its own line item, Growing & Glowing Guarantee Plus. You add it once at checkout for the whole order, and the price is based on the eligible plants in your cart. It shows before you pay.

Does one Plus purchase cover everything in my order, including plants in pots?

One Plus add-on covers every eligible plant in that order, whether it goes in the ground or in a container. You never buy it per plant. Annuals, bulbs, grass plugs, hard goods, and gift cards are not eligible for either guarantee.

What does Plus give me when a plant dies after month two, and how do I claim it?

Plus covers a properly planted and cared-for plant that fails after the 45-day guarantee ends, through one year from delivery. Send a photo of each plant, with a scratch test for trees and shrubs, to support@naturehills.com within 7 days of noticing the issue. You receive store credit for the plant's cost, plus free shipping on your next order, so the replacement ships free.

Does a plant that died over winter count under Plus? What if I ordered last year?

A plant that fails over winter can be covered while it is inside its window, as long as it was planted in its hardiness zone and cared for properly: one year from delivery with Plus, or through May 1 on the free guarantee for orders delivered after October 15. Check your delivery date, do a scratch test in spring once new growth should be showing, and send photos within 7 days of noticing the issue.

The weather, deer, or pests killed my plant. Is that covered?

Weather extremes, wildlife damage, and pests or disease that arrive after planting are not covered, and neither is a plant set outside its hardiness zone or planted or watered improperly. Damage in transit is covered: if a plant arrives broken, damaged, or dead, send photos right away.

I received a plant as a gift. Can I file the claim?

The person who received the plant can file the claim. Email support@naturehills.com with the order number and a photo of each plant within 7 days of noticing the issue, while the plant is still covered. If you do not have the order number, ask the person who sent the gift.

How quickly will you reply?

A real person on our team reads every claim and replies by email. Spring is our busiest season, so replies can take a few extra days then. Claims with a photo of each plant and the order number in the first email settle fastest. If you have not heard back, reply to your original email rather than starting a new one so the thread stays together.
