This low-care herbaceous Perennial is ideal for full-shade positions in the hottest of their growing zone range. Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 - 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Add a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch to the soil surface, especially in dry shade conditions. Deadhead Hostas as soon as the flowers fade for a tidy look, and in fall when these herbaceous Perennials die back from the frost, so prune the mound clean and remove the dead foliage. Divide your Hosta every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.
