Gorgeous Greenery - Korean Spruce Tree

Add an effective ornamental evergreen tree to your landscape with conical Korean Spruce trees (Picea koraiensis) for lush four-season color. Called jong-bi-na-mu in Korean, these trees produce a lovely flush of pale, celadon-green new growth in springtime.

Once mature, this specimen features purple cones that age to brown. These cones add winter interest along with a rich, red-brown trunk. But you may not see the showy bark because of the thick, short, dark blue-green needled foliage that hugs the symmetrical branch structure.

This rugged, pyramidal Christmas tree-shaped evergreen conifer has a widespread native range, easily tolerating the cold winters of USDA growing zones 5 through 8. These medium-sized evergreens grow between 30 - 60 feet in height and spread 15 - 25 feet wide at the base.

Valuable timber, Korean Spruce has been used for both furniture-making and carving. The straight, round central leader is also prized poles and fencing.

Landscape Application:

Add Korean Spruce to windbreaks, in banks to slow drifting snow, and as shelterbelts for wildlife. Mix with other Spruce, Pines, and Firs for biodiversity and a beautiful patchwork of evergreen color!

Korean Spruce doesn't mind moist soil, as long as it drains well after a rainfall. So use it on the edges of your Rain Gardens, or plant several on the banks of a streambed for year-round color and structure. Create a grouping to hide your backyard seating areas from nosy neighbors all year round.

A single specimen in your front yard is a gorgeous boost to curb appeal while providing food and shelter for your songbirds and wildlife! Watch bright red Cardinals, flitting Dark-Eyed Juncos, and chattering squirrels darting among the dense branching!

all enough to become pinpoint privacy accents, Spruce Trees are fantastic for blocking the view into a first or second-story window. Poignant focal points at the corners of your front yard, go ahead and decorate yours for the holidays, and enjoy the graceful branches dusted in layers of snow.

  • Dark Green Needles With Blue Overtones
  • Pretty Purple Young Cones
  • Bird & Wildlife-Friendly - Food & Shelter
  • Moderate Growth Rate & Natural Pyramidal Form
  • Fantastic Specimen Trees, Shelterbelts, Windbreaks & Hedges

#ProPlantTips for Care:

The Korean Spruce, like all types of Spruce Trees, performs best in cooler climates and does not do well in the heat and humidity of the deep South. Plant in rich, well-drained soil, but Spruce Trees can tolerate a variety of soil pH conditions. They prefer full sun, requiring at least six hours of sunlight a day to grow their best.

Maximize the lifetime performance of your tree with the symbiotic Nature Hills Root Booster in the planting hole. Provide regular moisture access for young trees, but once established, Korean Spruce needs moderate moisture access and appreciates a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch around the entire root system.

Rarely requiring pruning, spring is the best time to take out broken or dead limbs. However, it is best to keep the branches extending all the way down and sweeping out over the ground. Avoid planting too closely and risk having to trim off the lower branches … they will never grow back!

A layer of mulch or ring of groundcover plants helps to keep these lower limbs from getting damaged by mowers or foot traffic, while also improving the overall aesthetic.

  • Full Sun Evergreen Trees
  • Well-Drained Soil - Wide Range Of pH Conditions
  • Moderate Regular Moisture - Cannot Handle Wet Soil
  • Prune In Spring If Needed
  • Highly Adaptable & Easy To Grow
