Planting & Care

Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: For the brightest red flower clusters and healthy foliage, plant your Cherrytini™ in full sun, which means at least six to eight hours of direct light daily. While it can handle some afternoon shade, you will likely see fewer blooms and a higher risk of powdery mildew if it stays in the dark too long.
  • Soil: These roses love rich, well drained soil that acts like a wrung-out sponge, holding moisture without staying soggy. If you have heavy clay, mix in organic compost or aged manure to improve drainage, or plant them in a slight mound to keep the "feet" of the plant out of standing water.

Watering Requirements

During the first growing season, water your rose deeply two to three times a week to help the roots dive deep into the soil. Once established, this variety is surprisingly resilient, but inconsistent watering can lead to smaller flowers and scorched leaf edges. Aim for the base of the plant rather than the leaves to prevent fungal issues, keeping the soil consistently moist but never swampy.

Pruning Tips

Cherrytini™ roses bloom on new wood, so the best time for a "haircut" is in late winter or very early spring before new growth starts. Cut the stems back by about one third at a 45 degree angle just above an outward facing bud to encourage an open, airy center. This keeps the plant productive and prevents the interior from becoming a tangled mess of unproductive old stems.

Fertilizer Needs

Feed your rose a balanced, slow release rose fertilizer in early spring as the first leaves emerge and again after the first major flush of flowers. Avoid using high nitrogen fertilizers late in the summer, as this encourages soft, tender growth that can be easily killed off by the first frost. Stick to formulas specifically designed for roses to ensure you are getting the right mix of micronutrients for those deep red petals.
