Planting & Care

Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: Plant in full sun for at least six hours daily to ensure the most vibrant peach coloration. While it tolerates partial shade in the afternoon, especially in hotter climates, too much shade will result in fewer flowers and lankier stems.
  • Soil: This perennial thrives in rich, organic soil that holds moisture but drains well. If you have heavy clay, mix in some compost or plant in a raised mound to prevent "wet feet" during the winter, which can lead to root rot.

Watering Requirements

During the first growing season, water twice a week to help the root system reach deep into the soil. Once established, Pretticoats™ Peach is moderately drought tolerant, but you should maintain consistent moisture to keep the foliage lush and the blooms coming. If the soil stays dry for too long, the plant may go dormant early or produce significantly smaller flower stalks.

Pruning Tips

Since Geums bloom on new growth, you should deadhead spent flower spikes down to the leaf basal to encourage a second flush of blossoms. In early spring, remove any tattered or brown evergreen leaves from the previous year to make room for fresh growth. Think of this like a spring cleaning that allows the plant to focus its energy on new stems rather than maintaining old, damaged foliage.

Fertilizer Needs

Apply a balanced, slow release fertilizer once in early spring as new growth appears to fuel the heavy blooming period. Avoid using high nitrogen fertilizers late in the summer, as this encourages soft, leafy growth that won't be hardy enough to survive the first hard frost. A single application of a "bloom booster" formula in late spring is usually all it needs to stay productive.

Description

Get ready to rethink groundcovers! Could you ever imagine a petite, spreading plant with this much "Wow!" factor? Exceptional petals and bold details characterize this incredible cultivar. PRETTICOATS™ Peach Geum (Geum x 'TNGEUPP') adds extraordinary ornamental features to the sunny spots of your yard.

Your guests will be amazed at their unique, showy splendor...all dressed in a lively peach blend. Each pale yellow bloom is touched with a different hue from peach to pink. And because the flowers are mostly upturned, it will be easy to study them closely! The impossibly pretty flowers are even more noteworthy because they are held on dark red stems that rise high above the green foliage. You'll be amazed at the bright color and texture of the leaves.

Leave the last blooms on the plant to develop swirled, wispy seed heads for winter interest. Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 9, in warmer climates, the gorgeous leaves stay semi/fully evergreen.

Landscape Application:

PRETTICOATS™ Peach Geum is blessed with dynamic features that stand out in high-profile places. With simple deadheading, it reblooms all summer long! Instead of waiting, snip the blooms in their prime and make yourself beautiful floral bouquets.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Terra Nova Nurseries has certainly outdone itself with these peach and yellow flowers. They'll do best in full sun and in well-drained soil to resist pests, bunnies, and deer. Provide regular moisture for new plants, but once established, Geum becomes very self-sufficient! Deadheading keeps the flowers returning, early spring pruning keeps the mounds full of fresh even growth, and a division every 3-5 years keeps these spreading perennials in check.

  • Plant in Full Sun & Some Part Shade
  • Well-Drained Soil With Regular/Moderate Moisture
  • Prune Early Spring
  • Semi-Evergreen in Warmer Climates
  • Pest & Disease Resistant
