Came in pretty good shape im surprised it

Came in pretty good shape im surprised it survived a week in the mail

Asclepias can be a little temperamental about being moved, so it is genuinely good to hear yours arrived in solid shape after a week in transit. Give it some time to settle in before expecting a lot of new growth. Once it finds its footing in a sunny, well-drained spot, it tends to take off and the pollinators will not be far behind. Thanks for sharing your experience, Jeannie.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the mature height and spread of Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed?

  • Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed grows to a compact 1-2 feet tall and wide. This shorter stature makes it perfect for front borders, containers, and smaller garden spaces where you want pollinator impact without blocking other plants behind it.

Does Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed grow well in my planting zone (e.g., zone 3-9)?

  • Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed thrives in zones 3-9, making it adaptable to most North American climates. This compact native milkweed handles both cold winters and hot summers while blooming reliably from early to late summer. Shop at Nature Hills for healthy plants that establish quickly in your zone.

What are the light requirements for Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed (full sun or partial shade)?

  • Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for best flowering and compact 1-2 foot growth. This native milkweed tolerates some morning shade but may become leggy in too much shade. Plant in your sunniest spot for maximum blooms and pollinator appeal.

How much water does Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed need after establishment?

  • Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed is exceptionally drought tolerant once established and requires minimal watering. This native milkweed thrives in dry conditions and actually performs better with less water than more. Water deeply only during extended dry spells to maintain the compact 1-2 foot habit.

What type of soil does Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed prefer (e.g., well-drained, rocky)?

  • Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed thrives in well-drained, sandy or rocky soils and tolerates poor, dry conditions once established. This native milkweed actually performs better in lean soils than rich, fertile ground. Avoid heavy clay or consistently wet areas, and shop at Nature Hills for healthy plants.

Is Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed deer resistant?

  • Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed is naturally deer resistant due to its milky sap that deer typically avoid. This compact 1-2 foot native perennial works well in areas where deer browsing is a concern. Plant it confidently in your pollinator garden without extra protection.

Will Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed attract butterflies and monarchs?

  • Gay Butterflies Butterfly Weed is a magnet for monarchs, swallowtails, and painted ladies from early to late summer. This native milkweed serves as both a nectar source for adult butterflies and essential host plant for monarch caterpillars. Plant in full sun for maximum pollinator impact.
