Greenspan Spreading Fescue, Fescue arundinacea, is a lush, heat-resistant grass. Developed in Australia's sub-tropical climate, it has been adapted for growth all across the southern United States, from the Carolinas to Southern California. Unlike other fescues, it will even grow in Northern Florida. It is a warm weather plant, not recommended for colder climates.

Greenspan grows dark green, medium textured blades in full sun or up to 80% shade. In the warm weather of the southern states, it stays green all year long. It's a drought tolerant grass that takes advantage of natural rainfall.

With deep, aggressive roots and a network of rhizomes, Greenspan is weed-resistant. Unwanted invaders simply can't compete with its thick root system. The rhizomes also allow the grass to repair itself in the case of ruts and other lawn damage.

Because it doesn't produce viable seed, Greenspan is available by plugs only. Fall and winter are the best times to plant the plugs, but it can be planted year-round.

If planted at 12 inch intervals, full coverage will be established in 6 to 12 months. Plant at smaller intervals to establish full coverage more quickly. Intervals larger than 12 inches are not recommended.
