Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Japanese Holly does best in full sun and partial shade. Not finicky with soil type and rarely needing pruning, Patti O Box® does need well-drained soil with moderate fertility to do her best. If pruning is desired, do so in the spring after the first flush of growth. A 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the root system helps maintain moisture and insulation year-round.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Any Type of Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Salt Tolerant & Seldom Bothered By Deer
- Rarely Requires Pruning - Prune After First Flush of Growth
