Get gorgeous black fruit and year-round greenery, the naturally rounded and compact Inkberry Nordic Inkberry (Ilex glabra 'Chamzin') is an outstanding and carefree shrub that fits beautifully into modern landscapes. The broad-leaved evergreen leaves are deep lustrous green and glisten in the sunlight!

Spring brings pollinators seeking out the white blossoms that are small and insignificant but vital nectar resources for bees! You may see other nurseries incorrectly selling Nordic as a male pollinator, but Nordic is a female shrub. You will need a male shrub for pollination, and if you have both, the female shrubs will display ink-black fruit that birds adore and add further interest along with the fine-textured broad-leaved evergreen foliage!

This useful and beautiful shrub is gorgeous year-round with or without any fruits! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 through 8, Nordic is very cold-tolerant and resistant. Growing into a mounded, rounded and naturally shapely shrub 3-4 feet in width and height!

Planting and Application:

It is excellent for foundation, hedges, masses, and as a four-season accent plant. Nordic Compact Inkberry is well suited as low backdrops and edging. Single specimens can also be sheared for topiary-like precision! Its ability to thrive in high moisture means Nordic works beautifully around Rain Gardens and along water features!

Because of wind resistance, it makes an excellent choice that helps with snow drifts. Plant it along the driveway to reduce your shoveling task. The soft foliage has no spines or pokes like other Holly bushes, and works great along pathways, sidewalks, and driveways! The space-saving size makes Nordic readily containerized for accenting anywhere in the sun!

  • Shiny Leaves on an Elegant, Compact Grower
  • Tiny White Flowers for Pollinators
  • Female Shrub Produces Small Dark Fruit When Pollinated By A Male
  • Broad-Leaved Evergreen & Winter Interest
  • Low Hedges, Pathways, Rain Gardens & Large Planters

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This evergreen Inkberry needs full sun and partial shade, and prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils, rich in organic matter. It is tolerant of continually wet soils and can be easily pruned to maintain size and shape. Give them 3-4 inches of arborist mulch over the root system retain moisture, and insulate the roots. It is best to follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system and provide a good drink before winter. Feed with a general-purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring For a tidy, neat appearance, shear annually to shape or allow it to grow more naturally for a carefree foundation plant.

Great shipping!

Ordered 2 of these. I am hoping that having these and a couple of female varieties will give me berries, but if not they are still great. I have ordered mail order before. You did a great job with packing these large plants. They came perfect. Nice specimen plants. I am very pleased and will use your company again. Thankyou
