Black Chokeberry delivers a lot of ornamental charm. In spring, you'll enjoy the beautiful, white 5-petaled flowers with a subtle pink highlight. Watch as they transform into green berries, to red, to purple and finish black! Each healthy berry is similar to a small blueberry and can be added to smoothies, jams, jellies and sauces. Just add honey or sweetener to your recipes. It's not nicknamed Chokeberry for nothing!

Aronia berries are well on their way to becoming the new must-have superfood. The fruit production from each plant can be up as much as 30 or 40 pounds on each plant, packed with powerful antioxidants over 400% higher than blueberries!

Planting and Application:

Brighten up the shady areas of your landscape with this dainty, easy-care shrub. The summer leaves are lustrous and catch the light. In fall, enjoy the deep, rich color of the foliage; alight with red, orange and purple tones for a brilliant display. Hedges can also be used as snow fencing, privacy and shelterbelts. Just give about 4 feet from the concrete to reach their full, natural spread.

Add them to the edge of woodlands, or place them in back of Butterfly Gardens. Repeat along the length of your mixed borders. This is a wonderful native plant that provides shelter and food for many bird species, especially when food is scarce.

Black Chokeberry is found in low-lying wooded areas and has a very adaptable nature. Grow it in wet or acidic soils, in full sun, partial sun or shade. It even tolerates road salt, so can be incorporated into street plantings. You'll see fewer berries in shade.

Just planted/doing great

I was little worried when the two bare root plants arrived. One had new growth looking a little droopy, when I open the box. I wet both and let sit in the shade for 24 hours while I finalized the holes for planting. It has been one week since planting and both are doing great. New leaves and all branches have growth on them. I am hopeful they will be established enough by the time winter comes to be around next year.
