Didn't know what to expect

Didn't know what to expect from ordering plants online. Box was in great shape when it arrived and the tree was barely disturbed. Very nice root ball that took immediately!

I'm grateful that I have it

I ordered four small trees. Nature Hills waited until the summer heat passed before sending them, to optimize their survival/success. But, we had an early fall frost, and, I'm pretty sure the trees died. I called and Nature Hills reassured me that since I purchased the warranty, that if if the trees don't "come back" in the spring, just take a photo of them and they'll send me replacements. It was worth the small investment for this peace of mind!

Bowling

Love Mr Bowling Ball except for the brown needles that came with him. Hopefully they will go away. He's isn't rounding down toward the ground but maybe it's because it's new. We'll see in the spring.

Replacement rose tree

Can't rate it as of yet as original shipment was in bad shape. Free replacement hasn't arrived so the warranty "clock" hasn't even started.

Trees look healthy

I ordered these (two cherry trees) in the summer. Apparently they ship out of California and the heat was too bad in the mid-west to ship them so it (literally) took MONTHS to get them (I was concerned about timing because they're going to New Hampshire and I wanted to get them in the ground long enough before winter so they'd survive). Unfortunately I wasn't notified of the shipping delay...I had to keep contacting them about this. The trees FINALLY arrived (in October). They're in the ground, now. Let's hope they'll make it through winter.

Be careful not to sniff a honey bee into your nose while enjoying the fantastic scent of this tree!

Wonderful scent, fluffy white fringes blowing in the breeze, make sure you get two of the same breed. I have 2 breeds-one that grows straight up and one is round like a bush. They both are hardy, have fringe and fruit. Only 4 stars because they took 2 years to get started, and 3 to really take off. They are my favorite trees.

Superb Tree

I have the white fringe tree as a hedge row. More people should consider this tree when planting.

Fringe Tree grower

I came across a selection of Fringe Trees at a greenhouse in Green Bay, WI. One was loaded with nearly ripe fruit. I asked a lot of questions aobut the trees because they were new to me. I planted them in a semi-shady spot in our tough clay soil. The following summer, there were no blooms and consequently, no fruit. In their second summer, I counted 6 fruits on one of the trees, so I'm hoping for many more this summer. They are slow to grow, and I put fencing around them over winter to protect them from being snacked on by rabbits. This spring, they're looking very well.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I water a newly planted White Fringe Tree, and does it tolerate drought?

  • Water newly planted White Fringe Trees deeply once weekly during their first growing season. This adaptable native tolerates drought once established and isn't fussy about water requirements. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged the first year, then reduce watering frequency as the tree matures.

Is White Fringe Tree male or female, and do I need both for berries?

  • White Fringe Trees are either male or female, and only female plants produce the dark navy blue berries that ripen in late summer. Both sexes produce fragrant white flowers, but you need a female tree for fruit. For reliable berry production, consider ordering a female plant when you shop at Nature Hills.

Does White Fringe Tree have any common pests or diseases?

  • White Fringe Tree is remarkably pest and disease resistant, making it one of the most low-maintenance native ornamentals you can grow. This hardy tree rarely experiences serious issues and tolerates urban pollution well. Simply provide good drainage and avoid overwatering to prevent any potential root problems.

Can White Fringe Tree be grown in containers or urban conditions?

  • White Fringe Trees tolerate air pollution well, making them excellent urban trees. They're adaptable across wide hardiness zones and handle challenging growing conditions. For containers, choose a large pot since these can become small ornamental trees with time.

Is White Fringe Tree easy to transplant, or does it need special care when planting?

  • White Fringe Tree transplants easily and is notably non-fussy once established. This adaptable native tolerates a wide range of conditions and even air pollution. Just remember it's often the last tree to leaf out in spring, so don't panic if it looks dormant longer than expected.

What fertilizer should I use for White Fringe Tree, and how often?

  • White Fringe Trees are low-maintenance natives that rarely need fertilizing in average soils. A balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer applied once in early spring can boost growth if your soil is poor. Skip fertilizing established trees - they're quite adaptable and over-fertilizing can reduce their spectacular spring blooms.
