Heighten the experience of your home with careful plant selection. Plants can do so much to set the tone and pick up the pace of your landscape design.

Good party planners know that details really matter when putting together a fun event. Now...take that concept and you'll understand why professional garden designers love First Editions® Coppertone™ Distylium (Distylium 'PIIDIST-III' PP 25,304) so much.

This broad-leaved evergreen stays compact and rounded. It spreads to a very useful size in today's small space yards, and the leaves are larger, which helps magnify the visual impact of its charming color.

Coppertone™ Distylium features eye-catching coppery-red new leaves that mature to blue-green. No leaf is the same color!

Call them your living watercolor paintings. Yes, the depth of the foliage color really is that splashy!

You will love these shrubs. Add them throughout your yard in low hedges or mass plantings, and they'll repay you a million times.

Prune them as you like. Let them grow into a naturally free-form mound, or keep them trimmed up.

They make an excellent backdrop for other perennials, as well. Coppertone™ is one of those lovely shrubs that stands out when you want it to and blends in when it must.

It is a member of the Witch Hazel family, which means it can handle moist soils, partial shade, and even mild droughts. It seems to absolutely thrive on heat and humidity.

You'll appreciate the petite, red flowers in the winter months. Honey bees certainly adore their very early nectar resource.

Also known as Winter Hazel, Coppertone™ grows best in full sun to moderate shade with well-drained soil, but it won't mind drought, heat and even wet soil. Insects and diseases aren't a problem, either.

This is a remarkably easy plant to grow anywhere you want a low-maintenance evergreen shrub. Plant some down your driveway or along your side yard to breathe new life into your home.

Replace your aging foundation plants with a well-behaved landscape of Coppertone™. Staples such as Boxwood, Cherry Laurel, Holly and Juniper have a new contender for your consideration.

How to Use First Editions® Coppertone™ Distylium in the Landscape

Handsome, low-growing Coppertone™ Distylium will spread in a rounded shape. Use them to add texture, definition and attractive color year-round.

Plant a row three feet apart on center. You'll measure from the center of one to the center of the next.

Add additional rows in a staggered planting pattern. You'll gain a mass planting that covers ground beautifully.

Plant a short row of Coppertone™ in front of taller flowering trees. You'll layer in plenty of movement, color and style all year with this easy trick.

Carve out space for several seating areas in your yard. Live large with plenty of options to enjoy friends, family and yourself.

The unmistakable, swirling and cascading growth pattern of Coppertone™ helps you tie the entire design together. Repeat its use throughout your yard for a consistent appeal.

Gain a sculptural look by leaving your shrubs "au naturel" if you desire. The planting becomes even more low-maintenance and it will look fantastic with a natural rhythm all its own.

Commercial property owners choose Coppertone™ because it looks amazing all year. They also won't have to mess with it, beyond trimming, if desired.

No yard? No problem. Grow Coppertone™ in a large outdoor container for your porch, patio or balcony.

Effortless style. Designer look. Luxurious living, with help from an outstanding plant selection.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Mid-sized Coppertone™ is seriously easy-care. Give them sun, or some shade. Afternoon shade is best in the hottest climates.

Use in low-lying areas that see some dampness. Once they are established in your soil, they can even tolerate a bit of drought.

While your Coppertone™ plants are young, give them a medium amount of water on a regular basis while your plants are young. Keep plants grown in containers watered regularly, regardless.

Apply pine straw mulch or pine bark around your shrubs. They'll break down to help the soil reach a slightly acidic state.

Prune in late winter after the flowers are done. Shape your shrub with tip pruning, following the line of the plant. Rejuvenate older shrubs by taking out a few of the older stems at ground level.

The new leaves will color up well with an application of an all-purpose, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Follow the application rates directions on the label.

Even though Distylium isn't a deer's favorite food, if they are hungry, they'll try anything. Apply deer repellent on new plants when you have deer in the area. Reapply according to the label.

Order commercial-grade, expertly grown First Editions® Coppertone™ Distylium today. You'll be well on your way to the landscape of your dreams.

Take advantage of these marvelous, compact shrubs. They'll perform faithfully for decades with a small modicum of care.
