Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Dahlia tubers are fast growing and bloom all growing season. Plant in full sun or partial shade, they prefer a wide range of soil types as long as the location is well-drained. Ensure even moisture, by adding 3-4 inches of mulch helps considerably. Soak the tubers for a few hours before planting and plant them with their fingers spread out gently and pointing downwards. Dahlia tubers can be dug after frost, then place in paper bags or boxes of sand in a cool place and sprinkle a little water on the tubers periodically to keep them from drying out.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Well-Drained Organic Soil
- Moderate Consistent Moisture
- Dig Tubers in Cold Zones in Fall After Frost
- Appreciates Monthly Fertilizer
