Sunlight: For the best flower production and the most vivid red color, plant your Flare Hydrangea in full sun, which means at least six hours of direct light. In warmer southern climates, providing some dappled afternoon shade can help prevent the white blooms from browning prematurely in the summer heat.
Soil: These hydrangeas thrive in well drained soil that is rich in organic matter. If you are dealing with heavy clay that drains slowly, plant them in a raised mound to keep the roots from sitting in water, or mix in some compost to improve the structure of sandy soil.

Watering Requirements

During the first two growing seasons, provide about one inch of water per week to ensure the root system establishes deeply. While mature Flare Hydrangeas have decent drought tolerance, inconsistent watering during the peak of summer will lead to smaller flower panicles and potential leaf scorch. Aim to keep the soil consistently moist like a wrung out sponge rather than letting it oscillate between bone dry and soaking wet.

Pruning Tips

Because this hydrangea blooms on new wood, you should prune it in late winter or very early spring before new growth appears. Think of this like a structural haircut: cut the stems back by about one third to create a sturdy framework that can support the heavy flower heads. Pruning at this time ensures you aren't cutting off the season's flower buds and encourages the plant to send out vigorous new stems.

Fertilizer Needs

Apply a balanced, slow release fertilizer in early spring as the first leaves begin to emerge to fuel the summer bloom cycle. Avoid using high nitrogen fertilizers late in the summer or fall because this can stimulate soft, green growth that won't have time to harden off before the first frost. Let’s dance Moonlight bloom regularly - blue

Let’s dance Moonlight have bloomed regularly for about 10 yrs now against the house, mostly north exposure. Originally pink flowers when purchased but transitioned to purple and now blue in our soil. 3’ in ht. When nearby grass was limed they reverted to pinkish purple then back to mostly blue. We are zone 6b and with recent Very hot dry summers they wilt with the brief afternoon sun they get. Unfortunate. May have to consider moving them if these conditions continue every year. Otherwise very pleased with them
