Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

At Nature Hills we handle, package and ship the products you order with the utmost care to ensure healthy delivery. Shipping and handling charges are calculated based on the tables below. For a touch of magic in your landscape, order the beautiful Wild Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis), a native North American woodland plant! You'll love its fancy, drooping spurred red blooms with center yellow corollas. The shyly bowing blooms rise above lacy, notched compound leaves in soft blue-green. Forming from a basal rosette of fine-textured foliage that looks incredible all growing season long!

Kids of all ages are drawn to the blooms and so are hummingbirds, butterflies and bees that need to do a few acrobatics to reach these nodding blossoms, but they'll love them just the same for their nectar and pollen! Snip a few blooms for your bouquets indoors and encourage reblooming outdoors!

These cold-hardy herbaceous perennials grow throughout a wide range of USDA growing zones and can be 2-3 feet tall when blooming! The mounds of greenery form 18-inch tall and wide clumps that look fantastic long after the flowers fade!

Planting and Application:

This is an original wildflower species native to rocky, woodland areas! Plant this at the front of your border where you'll be able to study it. Share them with the neighborhood kids, they'll be entranced! Perfect for a Children's garden, a Cottage garden or along a shady path. Let Columbines ramble through an informal perennial garden or pollinator border, let them crop up in Rock Gardens, or throughout the lazy gardener's landscape!

These natives will naturalize and self-seed when they are happy, and you'll delight in seeing them pop up in the most interesting new spots in your yard in the springtime! But don't worry, these delicate ephemeral flowers won't give you any trouble or cause you any grief! Instead, they'll simply bring you increasing joy. Spring is here!

  • Darling Red Sprus & Yellow Corollas!
  • Cold-Hardy Native Wildflower
  • Pollinators & Hummingbirds Love Them
  • Lovely Cut Flowers & Lacy Foliage Mounds
  • Naturalizing, Wildflower & Woodland Borders, Perennial & Cottage Gardens

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant your Columbine perennials in a sun to partially shaded location in rich, well-drained moist soils. Use compost or mulch around the root system to hold in moisture and keep the roots cool. Deadhead to encourage a rebloom, then either remove the second flush of faded seedpods unless you want to allow self-seeding! Once the foliage dies back (either during a hot dry summer or in the late autumn) remove it to the ground to clean the mound. Top off with additional mulch or compost for winter insulation.

  • Full Sun & Partial Sun
  • Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Regular Moisture - Can Be Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Deer & Rabbit Seldom Bother These
  • Deadhead After Bloom & Prune Late Winter

Charming two-tone Wild Columbines are ready to brighten your garden! Enjoy these spring bloomers and add their native elegance to your landscape with the help of Nature Hills!
