Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Need a unique, hardworking, flowering broadleaf evergreen that pests and deer ignore? White Chinese Fringe Flower (Loropetalum chinensis) is an ornamental flowering tree or large shrub with incredible displays of white flowers like cream streamers or pompoms that festoon the entire plant each spring with a rebloom occasionally throughout the year or autumn months!

Their versatility and fantastic size make these care-free and vastly underutilized shrubs ideal for use in most gardens! White Fringe Flower shrubs have graceful open branching structures and a lithe appearance, these broadleaved evergreen flowering shrubs resemble those of the closely named White Fringe tree (Chionanthus) but Loropetalum are a fantastic substitute for southern gardeners!

Both male and female plants have these lovely blossoms but only female plants have the berries that birds adore! Chinese Fringe Flower female plants produce purple fruit to add to the ornamental appeal and fall interest of these showy shrubs.

Members of the Witch Hazel family, the lush green foliage loves sun or shade, even coastal conditions! Growing upwards of 6 to 10 feet in height and width throughout USDA hardiness zones 7 to 9, Loropetalum won't fade or shrink in the heat, sun, or humidity of the warmest US climates!

Planting and Application:

Tolerating anything the urban, commercial, and home garden can handle, these are lovely wildlife plants and fragrant low-maintenance landscape additions! Prune these into small trees by limbing up lower branches and choosing the strongest trunks, or keep White Fringe Flower as large flowering hedge shrubs that screen the view.

Evergreen White Fringe shrubs have graceful open branching structures and a lithe appearance, you'll want to give them a prominent spot in your landscape! Fantastic specimen and focal points, be sure to plant one by your home's entry or driveway to boost curb appeal year-round.

Fringe Flower also looks fantastic along the woodland border where the shade will not slow these trees down! Groupings add naturalized appeal to your garden setting and nectar-rich resources for bees, butterflies, and Hummingbirds throughout the Pollinator Garden!

When used as shrubs, these provide great privacy and screening as hedgerows and in rows. Add a poetic scene by planting one near a pond or water feature or allow the graceful branches to drift near your seating areas. Many homeowners use this shrub as an alternative to Boxwood and Barberry bushes throughout their landscape as backdrops, property division and definition.

A single specimen limbed up into a multi-stemmed tree form to soften the corner of your home or create a lovely lawn tree focal point on a front yard berm for smaller properties! Even balcony and patio gardeners can enjoy these versatile plants in oversized outdoor containers!

  • White Streamer-Like Pompom Blooms
  • Fragrant Reblooming Pollinator Attractors
  • Ornamental Flowering Shrub or Tree
  • Rounded Form & Broadleaf Evergreen Foliage Year Round
  • Specimens, Hedges, Privacy & Wildlife Appeal

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant Loropetalum in full sun for best flowering, but these appreciate a bit of afternoon shade in the warmest climates. Requiring moderate water and well-drained sandy soil on the acidic side, these plants do best with a 3-4 inch thick layer of pine straw, pine mulch, or other kinds of arborist mulch around the root system well to retain moisture and insulate the roots from winter's chill.

Use the Finger Test to determine the frequency...poke your finger into the soil to see if it is starting to get dry. Once established, Loropetalum can be very drought and salt-tolerant. Apply a fertilizer for acid-loving plants, such as Dr. Earth Acid Lovers Organic and Natural Fertilizer twice a year in early spring and mid-summer.

Usually an evergreen, the occasional cold snap may cause these plants to lose their foliage and act as a deciduous woody shrub, regrowing their foliage fresh in the spring. Flowering on old wood, it is recommended you Prune after flowering and renewal pruning every 3-5 years to remove the oldest, thickest, and least vigorous branches out at the ground level.

  • Full Sun to Part Shade
  • Well-Drained Acidic Soil
  • Consistent Moisture & Average Fertility
  • Prune After Flowering
  • Great Pest Resistance & Deer Rarely Damage This Plant
  • Evergreen in Warm Zones
