Nature Hills is expertly growing Wine & Roses® Weigela (Weigela florida 'Alexandra') for sale across the country. This ornamental, deciduous shrub is in high demand by garden designers, homeowners, and commercial property owners. Everyone loves the dynamic spring flowers contrasting against the lush, dark foliage!
A spectacular offering from Proven Winners® ColorChoice®, Wine & Roses® is the largest Weigela in the 'Wine' series. It features rosy-pink flowers which really pop against the deep, dark purple foliage. New spring growth emerges in a shade of purple so deep that it almost looks black.
The tubular, trumpet-shaped flowers absolutely blanket the plant from top to bottom and side to side. These showy, hot pink blooms will attract Hummingbirds for miles around. Best of all, the gorgeous spring blooms will flower for weeks! Wine & Roses Weigela makes excellent cut flowers. Try using several of the colorful branches in flower arrangements. Be sure to start cutting them as soon as the pink buds begin to show in spring.
Dark, handsome foliage pops against modern facades and finishes, and the hot pink blooms bring a touch of the tropics to lake houses. You may see another flush of flowers later in the summertime. The enormous pink flower display against the deep, dark purple foliage is nothing short of spectacular. The shrub continues to bloom sporadically into fall to help provide nectar for butterflies.
This low-maintenance ornamental flowering shrub grows into an elegant upright shape. It will add so much to the landscape, without asking much in return. Thriving throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 8, Wine & Roses® grows into an attractive 4-5 feet in height and width!
Planting and Application:
These dramatic shrubs are a useful size that can be used along a patio for a bit of privacy, or as a 'friendly fence' between you and your neighbor. Use these beautiful plants alongside a garage or the side of your home. Wine & Roses® Weigela is the perfect choice to repeat as a colorful backdrop for your perennial garden. Include them as a dark foliage element in a mixed flowering tree and shrub border.
Plant Weigela at regular intervals for an even display, winding rows, or zigzagging mass plantings! Or, create unique vignettes with partner plants by varying the distance between shrubs. Add them to your foundation planting, allowing plenty of space to reach their full height and spread. They can accent your entryway with easy style.
Wine & Roses® Weigela complements many different garden styles! It can be used in a modern or contemporary garden to line a pool deck or as a minimalist foundation planting. The abundant blooms also coordinate beautifully in a lavish cottage-style garden.
They are the perfect size for a fun, modern, colorful hedge along a fence or patio. To achieve a solid screen, plant them 2-3 feet on center. Measure from the center of one plant to the center of the next. Why not try a gently curving line? No one says hedges have to be stick-straight! A loosely spaced, or collection of grouped shrubs to create informal hedgerows and shelterbelts.
Commercial property owners, take note. The color impact of this easy-care plant used en masse is incredibly memorable. Draw potential customers to your site with this beautiful display!
Add these hardy, pretty flowering plants as facer plants along windbreaks. They'll also make lovely snow fencing as a hedge planted perpendicularly against your prevailing winter winds near the driveway. Wine & Roses® Weigela is a fast grower, so you'll see results in no time.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
For the best performance, bloom, and color, give it a prime spot in full sun. Weigela roots prefer well-drained soil and supply a moderate amount of supplemental water if you don't get enough rain. It takes off like a pretty, colorful rocket in well-drained soil and a moderate amount of water. It doesn't have any significant disease or pest problems, so you can be assured of an easy-to-care-for plant. Best of all between the brilliant flowers and picturesque foliage, the beautiful Proven Winners® shrub gives season-long color. Provide a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the root system.
The flowers bloom on last year's wood in the spring, so don't prune your plant until the first spring flush of blooms is finished. Then you can give your Wine & Roses® Weigela a haircut if needed. Renew older plants by removing a third of the oldest, fattest stems all the way down to the ground. Leave the younger, thinner branches for the best bloom and a more natural form. Either way, you'll enjoy a sporadic rebloom later each summer or fall too!
