Need a perfect pop of color in small yards or as a Thriller in large decorative containers? Try the easy-care First Editions® Strawberry Sundae® Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata 'Rensun' PP 25,438). With a rounded, compact habit, this gorgeous Hydrangea fits beautifully in small space gardens and makes a lovely accent in larger landscapes.
You and your neighbors will watch in amazement as the showy blooms go through a spectacular color change. New, cone-shaped flowers emerge creamy white in mid-summer, then change to pink as the cool nights roll around in fall. The color finally deepens into a luscious strawberry red.
You'll have armloads of blooms to bring indoors for stylish dried flower arrangements. If you choose to leave the blooms on the shrub, you'll enjoy the fantastic flower color that lasts well into fall.
With a rounded growth habit, Strawberry Sundae stays small for modern gardens. But those full-sized blooms are large enough to make a big impact! They start blooming at a time when other flowers have come and gone.
Use this flowering shrub as the Queen of your mid-summer garden. Allow her to grace your yard well into fall and even winter. Leave some of the magnificent panicle blooms to ornament the shrub and add winter interest, too.
No need to provide stakes or support for this sturdy beauty. It loves a place with at least 4 hours of sunlight a day, moderate water, once a year haircut and a yearly application of acid lovers fertilizer. Not much to ask for months of mouthwatering beauty!
Order your Strawberry Sundae Hydrangea today and get started with this new favorite!
How to Use First Editions Strawberry Sundae Panicle Hydrangea in the Landscape
You'll love the romantic look of these pretty, tidy plants. Try a long row of them curving along the middle of your mixed garden border. The subtle shades of the flowers blend well with anything else in your garden. Plant them in front of other hydrangeas (like flat or mop flower heads) for a striking layered and textured look.
Or, create an effortless summer style with an informal patio hedge. You'll gain welcome screening, without feeling like you live in a fortress.
For a solid screen, plant 3 feet apart on center. You'll measure from the center of the first plant to the center of the next. Increase that spacing if you prefer an airier, natural look. Either way, you'll love it! Strong, sturdy upright stems won't droop under the weight of its impressive blooms.
And its dark green foliage creates the perfect backdrop for its summertime display of blooms. Be sure to include some of the dark foliage in cut flower arrangements!
Use Strawberry Sundae Hydrangea in large containers on the patio, or on either side of your front door. It's a stunningly modern foundation plant and fits well under the front windows. Try pairing the smaller and compact growing Strawberry Sunday Panicle Hydrangea under your windows, with a pair of larger First Editions® Vanilla Strawberry™ Hydrangea on either side for a lovely pairing of heights and framing of your homes architecture! Anchor the corner of your home with a First Editions® Vanilla Strawberry™ - Tree Form for a stand-out display!
Plant an island bed with 3,5 or 7 plants in a sweeping curve. Partner with shrub Roses and add spring flowering Bulbs in front to complete the look. Mulch the bed well to protect the root system and unify the look.
Create a stunning mass planting in an area that gets morning sun and afternoon shade. Plant 3 feet apart on center in a zig-zagging planting pattern. Add a nice layer of mulch between the plants. Keep new mass plantings weeded, as the bloom-laden branches grow together and touch.
#ProPlantTips for Care
Strawberry Sundae is an easy-care, deciduous shrub. It's winter hardy and does well in urban regions. Prune it back in early spring for the best and most abundant blooms. Pruning will also help it keep its shrub-like shape. For best performance, provide it with plenty of sun and a moderate amount of regular moisture.
Give it a planting site in well-drained soil. It should receive at least 4 hours of sunlight a day and can handle all-day full sun in the upper part of its Growing Zone range. In hotter areas, it will grow and flower best with morning sun and afternoon shade.
You might have a small garden or even just a balcony, but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice the full-sized Hydrangea blooms that you love so much. Strawberry Sundae Hydrangea packs a full-sized punch on a compact plant. Order yours today!
